Do Tell: How Do You Manage Stress?

We are living in a crazy time right now so when you combine the stress of the economic crisis with the looming anxiety of the upcoming presidential election, feeling overwhelmed is not uncommon these days. As we all know, stress wreaks havoc on our body, mind and spirit so I'm curious to hear how you cope with anxiety. 24 percent of you like to get it on, but for everyone else, do tell, how do you center yourself during stressful times?

i am one of those people that if you ask anyone, i'm not stressed at all, but if you ask ME, i'm one of the most stressed people out there. i don't like to talk about it, and the way that i personally deal with it is by going to the gym and working it out. i think that i rely on sweating it out and getting the endorphines out

I play my piano or play with my kids.

Exercise and meditation . When I exercise I'm doing something physical which makes me feel better and gets out a lot of built up frustration . When I meditate I just clear my mind and don't think about anything which also really helps .

Just take a day off from everything. No cooking, no cleaning (i am a neat freak so this is hard!!!), no school...just lay in bed and veg with my man...

I'm the type of person that if I'm stressed about something, it's all I can think about. I could try to exercise or cook or write.. but it's all I think about still.

i don't think i ever do anything to manage it. i just have it and i complain a lot and bitch or cry.. then forget about it for a little while when distracted... then go back to it.

I try to take time out for myself, and read or write or just veg in front of the TV with some tea. But usually unless I leave the house and go out with people, I feel guilty for not doing other stuff (and I work from home which makes it worse) Stress sucks :(

I actually clean and de-clutter. I fold clothes that have been casted throughout the corners of my room or grab a sponge and head to the kitchen, scrubbing away. Something about creating order when I am feeling otherwise disordered, makes me feel better and relaxed. It is obviously a control thing.

i am the worst person i know at managing stress. i don't know how to, lol. if there was a list of things that you should NOT do when stressed, i'd be doing all of them. i don't think i ever learned the proper coping mechanisms. i suppose the closest thing i do to manage is distract myself from whatever is stressing me.i enjoy writing, reading, painting and things of the sort. but i'm not sure that counts as "managing".

Very careful. A very healthy diet, when I remember to eat. No drugs, no alcohol so my mind is always focused and clear. Write everything out so that nothing's cluttering my mind. Do whatever makes me feel loved and indulge in simple pleasures... I keep in mind that everything that's so important to me, means nothing to a man climbing a mountain taking careful steps to the top or a woman having a baby after a hard pregnancy. Everything else is gravy baby. ;)

it depends on the level of stress. sometimes just sorting things out, like writing it down, is helpful. sometimes running is helpful. when its too much, like when my mother was going through cancer, i just comforted myself with getting close to God and just allowing the closest people in my life to see me in my vulnerable state and comfort me accordingly.

I LIKE TO SLEEP, EXERCISE AND BE ALONE SOMETIMES, WHEN I AM READY TO TALK ABOUT IT WITHOUT BEING A DRAMA QUEEN, I CALL MY BF AND HE COME OVER AND MAKES LOVE TO ME AND MAKES ME FORGET ALL ABOUT IT.

I sleep. a LOT. a LOT A LOT. and paint. I'm an artist or sorts, and painting always makes me feel better. oh and lots and lots of unstoppable talking.
