Do Tell: How do you Typically Get Asked Out?

I like to call this time the BlackBerry era! It seems like there is always a way to stay connected which is great for some things like work and catching up with family and friends, but on the flip side, it's made some men out there incredibly lazy when it comes to asking women out on dates! Instead of asking for phone numbers, e-mail tends to be the preferred method of communication; and it makes sense. It's much less intimidating to pursue when you're safe behind the keyboard or text pad, so ladies, do tell, how do you typically get asked out on a date? Are the phone ringing days a thing of the past?

My husband just asked if I would be his girlfriend. Nothing crazy, just simple. I like it when it's simple.

My boyfriend now asked me by email, which I thought was unconventional and sweet. Most other times have been through text messages or phone calls.

There was a time when online dating services was the way to go, but I've been disappointed. So now, I usually get numbers from guys at singles dances! Not only do I love to dance, but there are plenty of them out there, you get a meal, and it's a reasonably safe place (I would think) for guys to "check women out" and connect. I'm sure loving it.

Call me oldfashioned, but if a guy asked me out over the phone or email, I would never accept it! I prefere it when they ask me out to my face!

I agree with BeachyAthlete. I was at a party where most of my coworkers were, and I had been crushing on one of them for months. We made out haha, but i didn't know if it meant anything because we were drinking, but he waited for me until i got off work and asked me to the movies. That was 5 years and 5 months ago. :-) ♥ In person is best and has been how I was approached both times.

I would NEVER accept a date from a man via text or email. Pick up the phone and call me! Now, dates from your boyfriend is a different story.

My boyfriend and I met at the gym. After two months of casual "Hi, how are you's" at the gym, we got in a longer conversation. At the end he said, "would you be interested in continuing this conversation over a drink some time?" I said yes, and gave him my number... and that was a year and three months ago. :-) I think asking in person is the sweetest way to do it. The guy is taking a real risk and putting himself ouyt there, so if you are into him, it makes it more special (and a better story if you end up becoming bf/gf!).

I was asked out via internet as my current bf and I met on match.com. It was my last resort as no guy in a bar, restaurant, shopping establishment, boat, beach, trash dumpster has ever asked for my cell phone number, home phone number, apartment number, or social security number. So yeah...that was how I got asked out. After that, like lily, it was more face-to-face asking.

These days it seems to be text or e mail - which I can't stand. It makes me feel like he's not that interested. Yes, calling someone can be intimidating but taking a risk is part of life. And it's much easier for us to say no and not give a guy a chance if he asks for a date over text or e mail.

It seems like text is the preferred method these days, and I actually prefer it myself. But that's just for initial contact, after that you should have enough of a connection to be able to take it to the phone. ;)
