Do Tell: What Natural Disaster Do You Fear the Most?

Today is the 18th anniversary of the Loma Prieta earthquake. Since I grew up in San Francisco, I will never forget that 7.1 quake as long as I live, and ever since 1989, I have a severe fear of natural disasters. Anyway you slice it, they are terrifying. I think the worst part is not knowing what's in store for you and your loved ones and not knowing when they will end or what's coming next. We hear about tornados, hurricanes, tsunamis, and avalanches all the time, but ladies, do tell, what natural disaster do you fear the most?

Tornado's. Even though we don't get them where I live, ever. Or, not enough for my fear of them to be rational by any stretch of the imagination.

Tornados..I've had dreams where I'm looking out of huge window and can see about 6 tornados going on at once..revelation..maybe? Also Tsunami's. I have recurring dreams of those as well. Just seeing the ocean pulling away and then a huge wave climbing up to more than 50 stories get ready to plummet me is not cool! Yeah, those 2 freak me out the most. Annnndd...I live in Brooklyn, NY - we had a tornado not too long ago pass right through my neigborhood..yeah..I said it..Brooklyn.

when i was a child growing up in Illinois it was Tornados. Living in Florida now, its hurricanes. But they are a mixed blessing to me because i work for the state of florida dept of health and we are required to work shelters and we have the opportunity to go on deployment. THAT means extra money for me, which is awesome.

I don't really know what natural disaster I fear the most.. Tornadoes don't really bother me so much, we get them a lot in the south. The last one I remember hit the town next to ours, about 15 minutes away. I don't really live near any water so flooding isn't an issue.. also I don't live near the coast so hurricanes are just thunderstorms by the time they reach here. Earthquakes seem like they would be pretty terrifying.. and volcanoes if you lived close enough to them!

Well I live in California so the only natural disaster that really affects me is earthquakes, which are especially scary since we can't exactly predict when they will happen.

I have worrying problems, it doesn't run in my family but it's just that way. I live in WI and tornadoes don't happen often but they terrorize me the most. when I went up north about 3 years ago there was this big thunderstorm. Our little shelter( we were in a cottage with my cousins.)blew out of the ground, into the air and into the lake. One of my older cousins said (my parents were out eating with my aunts and uncles)that your parents are going to die and my sister threw up. right after that there was a lightning bolt and we all screamed. It was like 2 miles away. the lights were already out and we were screaming our heads off. When I was a bay and my parents were building our house a tornado came and ruined our garage. Im always scared. now i look up tornados on the internet and watch the weather. Yah I'm strange

Well I've had almost all of the natural disasters you could think of... Typhoons/Hurricanes in Caribean Islands when I was a kid, and in Japan now Earthquakes in Japan Volcano in Caribean Islands (big one distroyed the entire island next to mine when I was there... you could see the flames and all from my house) We sometimes have Tsunamis alerts here in Japan (the most recent was one month ago after a big Earthquake near New Zealand) but luckily I've never lived one... I live about 50 m from the sea, so I guess my town would be pretty damaged if a tsunami happened...

I have never really been through anything too terrible, but I would be most afraid of tornados. They come every once in a great while, I have never seen one touch down where I live though. I have several family members who live in tornado areas and have had one touch down and that scares me too.

I grew up in NJ (!) and I remember being so afraid of tornadoes because of the movie 'Twister.' I was so scared that a tornado was going to come and sweep us all away! But now, I'm not that scared of any natural disasters...I live in NC now and we never really get the full brunt of hurricanes just a bunch of rain...

I'd have to say anything with water, the scariest thing would be it happening and me not holding my kids or wondering if their okay. That would just kill me.

My fears are decided by location. Cali = earthquakes. Southeast = hurricanes.

i'm scared of ALL natural disasters....BUT since I live in Oklahoma I'm probably most afraid of tornadoes. They can be devastating. I'm also afraid of floods, which has been happening her a lot lately.

Hurricanes because I live in Houston. I'm terrified of tornadoes, though; there's no warning!

TORNADO! I went to school in Iowa and two years ago five of them hit the town where I went to school. If was terrible, my building got hit and my church across the street was demolished and sadly it was from the 1800's and beautiful. It was the scariest thing I've ever been through, not to mention my apartment was destroyed and I had to walk the streets to try and find my belongings through the mess.
