Do You Kiss Your Family Members on the Lips?

Every family is different, and they express their love in different ways. My relatives are into hugging and kissing on the cheek - we save lip-to-lip contact for our significant others only! My best friend's family on the other hand, always greets each other with a quick peck on the mouth.

In my family we kiss each other on the lips and same with some friends quick pecks on the lips sign of love and respect. Specially to the elders int he family like grandparents. But when a female int he family is older like 13 we stop kissing on the lips. Males out of respect still kiss elders on the lips son and mothers, grandparents etc. females at 13 kiss other family members on the cheek only because society in america thinks it's unnatural or wrong to kiss family members on the lips. Something we started to adjust to maybe 7 years ago.

In some areas of Italy and other Mediterranean countries, friends greet each other by kissing on the mouth, men and women both. Arab men kiss each other on the cheek in greeting. In France, protocol demands a kiss on each cheek, while the Dutch throw in a third one for good luck.

I still kiss my immediate family on the lips. My dad and I mix it up - sometimes cheek, sometimes lip! My brother and I always kiss on the lips. And, before my mom died, I'd never considered kissing her cheek! My boyfriend's family are cheek kissers and big huggers. I'm cool with that...but, I know I'll be kissing my kids on the lips.

My family really only hugs. Occasionally there will be cheek kisses, but it's really rare. So is saying, "I love you." That makes it sound like we're really cold to each other, but we're not. Just affectionate in different ways.

Wow, I totally didn't even realize there were families that *didn't* kiss on the lips! I guess it does depend a bit on the family member, but generally I'd say I kiss on the lips or not at all (and a hug instead). I feel awkward cheek-kissing - I never know which side to aim for. There's also quite a bit of affectionate butt-slapping going around my family, too, but mostly between siblings or a parent and a young child. And now that I've said that you're never gonna believe me when I say we're not actually very physically demonstrative at all - I was one of the least touchy-feely of my friends in college - but it's true! :)

We are cheek kissers in my family. We always say that we love each other too. I don't ever think I could kiss my dad on the mouth.

I still kiss my parents on the lips and I'm almost 40. But I think it's ok with immediate family.

Unless it's a boyfriend, I wouldn't kiss a person on the lips. I was brought up to kiss people on the cheek, not the lips.

The only 2 I kiss on the lips are my son (age 6) and my husband. When my son gets older, he will revert to a cheek-kiss too. But he's so stingy with his kisses that I welcome every one. I know there will be a time when he will want to stop the lip-kissing. And when that day comes, I'll be a little sad. But I wouldn't want to embarass him too badly in front of his friends.

You know after I answered the question i realized the only one i kiss on the lips is my fiance and If we had kids. But when i grew up we kissed on the mouth. I don't see anything wrong with it. Everyone is different but I grew up no matter what to always tell each other you love the when hanging up the phone leaving what ever and give hugs and kisses. Everyone thinks I crazy because I always say I love when I leave. But I does depend on the person

Depends on who it is. I kiss my mom and dad on the side of their lips, if that makes sense. Not fully lip to lip. Everyone else is usally cheek.

I remember being little and giving my dad a kiss on the lips and him saying, "No kisses on the lips, that's for your mom only."So I don't kiss my dad on the lips, but I kiss my mom, sister and brother on the lips. It's not like some weird Angelina Jolie makeout session, it's a dry peck.

My father's side is Italian, so we kissed all of my family members on the lips up until we were teenagers. As adults, everyone kisses on the cheek and hugs, except my grandparents, who always get a kiss on the lips from everyone. But if everyone didn't get hugs and kisses on the cheek for every hello and goodbye, that would be insane for us--including the men. But I think Italians are just affectionate people...
