Dunkin Donuts Pulls Ad Featuring Rachael Ray in a Scarf That Looks Too Arab

Click to Read

Dunkin Donuts Pulls Ad Featuring Rachael Ray in a Scarf That Looks Too Arab: Dunkin Donuts has pulled a commercial featuring pitchwoman Rachael Ray wearing a scarf because Michelle Malkin and other conservative observers thought the scarf looked too much like a keffiyeh, what Malkin describes as "the traditional scarf of Arab men that has come to symbolize murderous Palestinian jihad." The Boston Globe reports that Dunkin Donuts caved to pressure from the conservative blogosphere — and the fear of a mass boycott — and removed the ad. Malkin has previously lauded Dunkin Donuts for its support of immigration laws.

This is so ridiculous... why would someone be offended that an an obviously NON-TERRORIST woman wore an article of clothing that RESEMBLED an article of clothing worn by an ethnicity, a small percentage of whom are terrorists?!?! that would be like if I saw, I don't know, Shaquille O'Neal wearing a pair of suspenders and said, those look like lederhosen and I'm offended b/c lederhosen are traditionally worn by Germans.... therefore Shaq is promoting NAZIS!

Anything we do or wear is linked to terrorism. Are we still living in the dark ages? Michelle Malkin needs to have a look at her hand and see if her fingures are all the same or not. Not all people in the Middle East are terrorist! There are good people and bad ones everywhere. Stop spreading bad stereotype and focus on more important issues such as global warming, hunger, wars and vital diseases!

I would think that this was an April Fool's story but we are at the end of May. Oh my freagin' goodness who would have thunk that Rachael Ray supports terrorism! Maybe I should send this to Ms. Malkin (this is according to Merriam-Webster): kaffiyeh Main Entry: kaf·fi·yeh Listen to the pronunciation of kaffiyeh Variant(s): also kef·fi·yeh \kə-ˈfē-ə\ Function: noun Etymology: Arabic kūfīya, kaffīya, from al-Kufa Al-Kufa, town in Iraq Date: circa 1817 : an Arab headdress consisting of a square of cloth folded to form a triangle and held on by a cord

But what about your arms, Cine??? What about your arms? ;) Do they not get cold as well? Left out there to fend for themselves?

Jillness don't go knocking winter vests. I love them. They keep me the perfect temperature!

Jillness I'm pretty sure they are all a bit different in design and color. Even the way they are worn differs. (some wear it loose around the head like Yasar Arafat, and some wear it like a turban)

Hey yesteryear, what kind of shoe? One with a high pointy heel, I hope.

"I don't get is why she's wearing a scarf and a t-shirt. Her neck is cold, but her arms aren't?" I wonder the same thing when I see people in winter vests. I just don't get it! Here is my question: Does the Keffiyeh have a specific pattern or shape? Or are they all a bit different?

Well, the 'boycotters' (by boycotters i mean conservitive media) are extreme bigots. Big son of a b*ich bigots who's lives have no meaning.

The only thing I don't get is why she's wearing a scarf and a t-shirt. Her neck is cold, but her arms aren't? I also don't eat enough DD to boycott it, but this is pretty lame, as is Malkin.

These people are not idiots, they are not overly sensitive, this is just another way to show hate, period. This is that subtle racism that no one can call out b/c the racist claim those who are offended are just too sensitive. I put in a post that got flagged b/c of link, it explains that US MILITARY WEAR THESE SCARVES in the middle east b/c of the sun and sand - just as MOST MIDDLE EASTER MEN - but since they are all terrorists I guess it doesn't matter. Another thing I have a problem the fact that Palestinians and Israelis are always killing each other, Palestinians set off bombs at markets, Israels bulldoze homes with people in them - who is to say which side is a terrorist and which side is right. Just b/c Israel can build an Army w/US funding, and just b/c the west recognizes Israel as a country does not mean their acts aren't killing innocent people too.

oh give me a break... that is clearly a scarf. idiots. I hate to resort to name calling but sometimes it's all that works... and I agree with whoever mentioned about a celebrity chef stumping for Dunkin Donuts. I don't get it. Especially when she's been trying to focus on more healthy foods in her recipes. Not that I don't love DD because I do, but I'm not sure that using a celebrity chef as a spokesperson is the best way to go... could be counter productive to the whole obesity thing (see the other article)... it's a vicious cycle that's for sure.

People are so idiotic. Everyone wears those scarves in NYC. Give me a break.

I don't know how to put pictures in, but take a look at Meghan McCain supporting those Arab Terrorists! http://static.crooksandliars.com/2008/05/meghan-and-cindy.jpg LINK: http://www.crooksandliars.com/2008/05/25/oh-noes-is-meghan-mccain-a-terrorist-sympathiser-too From the Website: "Well, given that Malkin and LGF are getting their collective knickers in a bunch over Rachael Ray wearing a fringed scarf in a recent ad for Dunkin’ Donuts, shall we hear calls from them to boycott the McCain campaign, as it is quite clear from these photos that McCain’s daughter and blog-mistress is showing her sympathy for them “terrists” and Ay-rabs like that them Yasser Arafat? And as C&Ler Sean points out, the “Keffiyeh is also called a Shemagh and is used by almost every military force in the Middle East right now. You can buy it at most Army-Navy stores and is very popular amongst British, Australian, and US troops. It is not only used by the troops to help cover their mouths and faces during sand storms, but worn as a scarf to prevent suburn along the back of their necks during the day.” So what say you, Charles Johnson and Jesse, er…Michelle Malkin? Will you accuse the troops of sympathizing with the enemy and “mainstreaming terrorism”?"

ARE YOU &%#$% KIDDING ME! What year is this? This is racism and prejudice, just b/c something that looks like something they wear in the middle east it means terrorists? It's sad when DD is worried people will boycott them being rational and saying 1 - this is stupid, and 2 - even if it is a Middle Eastern Kiffeyah, not all Muslims/Arabs who wear a Kiffeya are terrorists, and not everything slightly related to arabs is tainted with terrorism. Wouldn't be a great world where DD is worried if they pull this add people will boycott them for being racists? As the old saying goes, I love America, but I sure hate some the closed minds in it!

Her scarf has paisley print on it. Terrorists are into paisley??? So we can't wear a white scarf with details on it anymore?? I thought that the official scarf was much wider (like a bandana), and had a blue print that was much different in shape. I could be wrong. :? And I can't stand Michelle Malkin. She exaggerates and misrepresents so often. She is one of those pundits who doesn't care what lies they spread, as long as they "win" the verbal battle they are in at that moment. I don't respect that at all.

I can confirm that there are Hipsters (***shutter***) wearing these scarfs in Williamsburg. And I can confirm that many of them are Jewish.

i could absolutely care less what it has come to symbolize. (terrorism). but it's absolutely within our power to make it symbolize something else. like... a scarf!

there are so many things wrong with this story. first we have rachael ray, selling crap junk food. then we have rachael ray wearing a scarf that is a traditional palestinian scarf, but one that has been co-opted to the degree that you can now find it at urban outfitters where they call it a "peace scarf". i doubt rachael ray even knows where palestine is. then finally, we have michelle malkin, who seriously needs to have a shoe thrown at her head, barking about it being a political statement. is she kidding? ill bet there are israeli-american hipster kids in williamsburg who are wearing these scarves RIGHT NOW. offensive because it's trendy? yes. somehow promoting the jihad? don't think so.
