Jill, as they said in grammar school-it takes one to know one.

IMO, "It is not winning any points or demonstrating any depth of knowledge by you of the subject at hand" is on the same level as "stupid"

Jill, are you sure it is money AIG owed those banks?
Jillness Jillness 7 years
I don't think it is an "American mandate", but being in the red means you can't pay what you owe. We gave money to them so they could pay what they owe, and they owe to international banks. These debts are the reason AIG would go under, so it is only expected that they pay them.

one other comment, I was just looking at that picture of at most a few dozen picketers outside AIG building. How is that newsworthy and the literally dozens of demonstrations involving hundreds of people popping up all over the country protesting the selling of our children's and grand children's birthright, is completely ignored? This enquiring mind at least would like to know.

Jill, if saving foreign banks is an American mandate, then I suggest it be done on a case by case basis, with congressional oversight. We are talking about hundreds of BILIONS of taxpayers dollars. We the people should have some slight say on how it gets "spread around".

Agreed, Grandpa!

"I guess our elected representatives are completely unaware of what a "Bill of Attainder" is." I agree! I heard that they are now slowing down the passing of this misdirected legislation, so maybe some of them have read up on the Constitution by now. As for AIG paying debts to foreign banks...that is part what they were meant to do. The reason they are so important at all is because they are so deeply intertwined with other international banks, that they could literally bring down the global financial system by themselves. It helps the global market (and exports, etc.) if AIG pays what they owe to others as well.

laurelm, i have to modify your statement a bit, obama gets a mess with big govt then tries to get out of mess with a MUCH bigger govt Shocker! :-)

Pamela, there is no other word than "silly" I can think to use to describe someone who chastises a member for commenting on the topic of the thread. You degrade yourself, I just happen to notice.

In my opinion, 'My dear' is pretty much on the same field as 'silly girl'.

P.S. i wonder if the cage fights in Texas were better than " Never Back Down"??

this "silly girl" (how kind of you jill-ness to refer to someone in such a low life derogatory way), has been battling that I have long forgotten what was at the top. Thanks for your oh so kind reminder. If I had voted for Obama, I'd be in a foul mood too.

I guess our elected representatives are completely unaware of what a "Bill of Attainder" is. How about the outrage of the AIG money being funnelled to European banks? How about outrage to the funds funneled to Goldman Sachs, without any strings whatsoever.

"the government should have rolled an an appropriate plan which included stipulations i.e. no bonues/no bonuses over a certain amount." I don't know if this is legal, because it would have violated employment contracts that were signed long before the legislation. I do think something needs to be done, but at the same time we need to do it with in the law.
bastylefilegirl bastylefilegirl 7 years
"I thought the AIG money used for the bonuses was from the second part of the TARP funds that was passed under Bush? " It was!
bastylefilegirl bastylefilegirl 7 years
I have to agree with many of you I think instead of a rush to appease people the government should have rolled an an appropriate plan which included stipulations i.e. no bonues/no bonuses over a certain amount. To go back and then slap on a 90% tax is wrong I don't care who you are doing it too!

What are you talking about, "shifting the topic to Palin"? There was an article about her referenced in the thread, silly girl. She is one of the topics. And I meant raging like a mad mob...so yes, like the citizens in the picture above.
amybdk amybdk 7 years
Pamela - in reference to: this is all so tiring- shifting the topic to Palin. Stop changing the subject my dear. It is not winning any points or demonstrating any depth of knowledge by you of the subject at hand. Are you speaking to Jillness or to Citizen? Jillness was only commenting on the brief that was included on this thread. :)
