I am no different than the kind of stuff that has been thrown around about John McCain, Sarah Palin and George Bush. A lot of the things I say, are simply to point out the hypocrisy of people. I also like to play devils advocate. And he flew on 747's before he was president elect. i also don't criticize people about the environment, carbon footprint, gas mileage. I don't believe in socialism or semi-socialism. I believe in the free market economy. I think federal government should be as small as possible. They should not be buying out banks, in the business of loaning money, or regulating nearly every aspect of day to day life. So whether i do all of those things, I believe is my personal decision, Obama thinks that every decision is the governments business. Therefore his actions should be subject to higher scrutiny. Same as Palin getting a bad rap for her daughter getting pregnant out of wedlock, since she is against sex before marriage and sex education. Obviously you will never see my point because you are blinded by your love for BO who can do no wrong.

Every single comment u make about Obama is attacking for sillyness. Like ur so perfect. Like u wouldn't travel on a 747 if u weren't the President-Elect, like u wouldn't ask the current President to use Blair House so ur daughters won't have to spend the first 2 weeks of school in a hotel. That's what I'm talking about.

FORMER Australian Prime Minister as opposed to the incoming POTUS. Howard could stay at the Australian embassy - people like him often do that. It is not a state visit, Australia pulled out of Iraq some time ago, and Bush has been in Crawford.

Wow franky, what are you talking about? I said that Obama asked, Brinker said no, they booked a hotel. It is Steph who is complaining about the accommodations. And Steph for the record, it is being used by John Howard, a former Australian prime minister and leading member of Bush's Iraq coalition. Sounds like it is being used as the official government guest house to me. At least until 01/12. Which they offered Obama to move in on that day, which he declined opting to wait until the typical 01/15 move in date. So Franky, I think you need to get off that self righteous cloud you are sitting on. People can whine and complain about "Oh Obama isn't being treated fairly" that they deserve better treatment etc, but they are not up on their clouds right? But I am on a self righteous cloud because I think s that Obama has been given the same treatment as any other president? Sure, whatever!

What are u talking about Hainan. Obama asked if they can stay in the house, Bush said no so they booked a hotel.

The Blair House is not a party facility - it is the official government guest house. Blair House knew a new president was coming and should have been prepared. Trust me, had the party that falsely claimed the Clintons sabotaged typewriters been told their president elect had to wait for a standard government accomodation, there would have been hell to pay.

The president elect has always had the blair house available on January 15th. They have many receptions booked until that date. To move those would be unfair to the people who booked them. Mr Obama wants preferential treatment, and it is unnecessary to give that treatment. And their vacation retreat in hawaii was not president ready, but they made it so. I don't see how this is any different, just another reason to act like Obama is being treated unfairly and get panties in a wad. Lickety, McCain would have moved in on the 15th like other presidents had.

Most foreign dignitaries travel with their own security details; my sister and brother in law, like many people in DC law enforcement, have freelanced for them. There's safe and secure then there's Presidential safe and secure - those two things are different. When Charles & Diana stayed in DC, it was at the British Embassy and Blair House IS the U.S. government guest house for visiting heads of state. It isn't that the Hay Adams can't be brought up to standard, it is that the Blair House is at standard, at no extra effort, or cost, to anyone - there should be no fear that the president-elect's security is in any way compromised. Obama is the next president of the United States. They are outgoing administration officials giving networking parties.

Steph, I honestly don't think a single example is proof. Foreign diplomats and important politicians visit D.C. all the time and they need safe, secure places to stay. Furthermore, when presidents visit other cities and countries, where do you think they stay?
stephley stephley 7 years
Actually, a family member handled security at a hotel a few doors down from Hay Adams. They're celebrity ready, not President ready. There's a difference.

Steph, I'm sure there are many hotels in D.C. that are set up for serious security. It's an obvious necessity.

Blair House has been booked for “receptions and gatherings” by members of the outgoing Bush administration. Those receptions, the official said, “don’t make it suitable for full-time occupancy by the Obamas yet.” Did they not expect a new president to be elected? Shouldn't the people who handle Blair House's sked have considered any incoming president's needs over members of an outgoing administration? Blair House is set up for serious security needs - hotels aren't.

"it pisses me off that the obama's are in a hotel. if mccain had been elected would the guest residence have been available for his family?" Probably not, it supposedly has been booked for a while but McCain has a place in Washington that they could have shacked up in.

Can you imagine in 3-4 years when Malia is hitting her teen years and has to run around with a huge crowd of Secret Service agents? And if Obama was to win a re-election... the poor girls would have to try and date with their every move being watched. I'm sure they will adjust just fine though, but I kind of feel bad for them. I just hope they can have some semblance of a normal childhood.

What an exciting time for the family! The girls seem very grounded, so I imagine they'll do all right even with the weirdness surrounding their situation :)

That crowd of escorts should keep any mean girls in line! As long as the escorts all don't insist that they get good-bye kisses.

How strange (yet probably cool in a kid's eyes) to be escorted to school each day by that many people.
