That quote is funny brook, especially since there are only 300,000,000 citizens in America. Does that mean that she know's how many illegal aliens are here?

According to Nancy Pelosi that unemployment figure is waaaaay off. Remember, 500,000,000 people lose their jobs every month. The other 9 of me are out of work.

How arbitrary to suspend him. He broke no rules concerning drug use. Not saying he wasn't really stoooopid.

That unemployment figure is now 598,001, since Phelps lost his job with Kellogg's.

"Was he caught with marijuana? Arrested? Charged with a crime? He acknowledged that he did use the pipe. I think he was careless, exhibited lackadaisical behavior, but he owned up to his mistakes. Personally, I feel that it was kind of a setup. Whoever leaked that photo wanted to trip the guy up. I'm not giving him a free pass but the suspension thing is stupid. He'll learn from this and come out even stronger, I'm sure."Exactly. Who cares? The only mistake was letting some jealous fratboy take a picture of him. I also think his punishment for the DUI was plenty severe. It was not a slap on the wrist, though it should have been.

Maybe he'll learn not to do anything illegal, as there is always a camera...

"I'm glad Michael Phelps has been suspended. I'm probably the only one, but meh. After the slap on the wrist for the DUI after the 2004 games, it's good to know that someone is saying he can't just walk away this time." Was he caught with marijuana? Arrested? Haus-I know a few people in sales in the CT division and their jobs are safe. ONe woman whose husband is in the science/research side, his whole unit is on the block. And I agree that this isn't all recession driven and a big part of it is the merger with Wyeth. Part of the deal was they would have to accept a certain amount of Wyeth employees.

Right now, I am very grateful to have a job. There have been several furniture factories here that have shut down or laid-off. We had a huge new plant (3,000 jobs) scheduled to open this year, but the company has pushed in back to 2010 and here recently they said indefinately. Scary times. I'm glad Michael Phelps has been suspended. I'm probably the only one, but meh. After the slap on the wrist for the DUI after the 2004 games, it's good to know that someone is saying he can't just walk away this time.

Roar - Its intersting you mention Pfizer, I've been reading a lot about that merger and I don't think their job cuts are based as much in this recession as they are with Lipitor coming off patent (so fewer sales people) and the aquisition of Wyeth, they bought Wyeth for its varied drug portfolio so I doubt they will be laying off many people in the research part of there. I think these numbers are intersting because they are sad, but sometimes it seems like people "double dip" so to speak. Like a company could have announced it was scaling back 2 years ago and now that plan is just coming to fruition, but to a regular person listening to the news they hear the news of the layoffs twice.

This unemployment thing is crazy. The hubby and I have been as much money as possible just in case anything happens. We both have really stable jobs at the moment, but you never know what could happen. I really feel for everyone out there looking.

Where I live in CT, one of the biggest employers, Pfizer is laying off 800 of its employess. Pfizer, who has bought Wyeth and will be merging their employees, plans on laying off thousands more. The other two biggest employers, Foxwoods Casino and Mohegan Sun Casion laid off hundreds of workers as well. This is a lot of unemployed people in just the Southeastern part of the state.
