Going Back to School

Do You Want to Go Back to School?

James Franco's intellectual life may no longer be much of a secret — not an interview goes by when we're not reminded of his super-smart schedule. He told Esquire he put off school to act in his teens and early 20s. Now he's making up for it by double-booking grad programs this Fall at Columbia and Yale.

When I first graduated from college I always wanted to go back to school, especially this time of year, but now I only want to half the time. Would you like to return to long nights and an open schedule, or is it history?

i agree with the nerd next door. i just got my bachelor's in electrical engineering and i still feel like it isn't enough, they want management training, sales experience, everything. so i do want to go back to school, just not further with ee.

At this rate, going back to school seems like the best choice for many people. I graduated college in 2008, and it took me almost a year just to land a stable job. Apparently many companies in my field, internet and technology, require a certain amount of years of experience and specific skills that I wasn't taught back in college. And as the field advances in the latest trends, so must your skills.

I do want to go back. A college diploma just isn't going to cut it with the rising inflation rates, I just have to get more and better credentials just to survive.

I would love to if I could afford it. I always wanted to get my bachelor's.

Michelle C - did you go straight to med school or did you do it after taking a break? I'm in med school right now and I'm always really interested in hearing everyone's story (how they got from undergrad to grad). As for me, I complain a little about school while I'm in it, but really, I love it. Set schedules make me feel a little depressed.

I do, but I'm a little anxious about it. I have my AA, I just want to go back for my Bachelors. I don't miss it, I just want the degree.

I do miss school, and I think I need to go back eventually. It's just a lot of time and money if you're not going to use it.

I never finished school because the school I was at didn't offer anything I was interested in, so I started working full-time for about 5 years. I'm going back as a FT student to finish my bachelor's degree AND I'll be working FT. Hardcore.

I've gotten all the schooling I need and I think that's it for me now, as I have a good full-time job. Except maybe language classes so I can be a Director at some point. But that's nothing major.

I've got my bachelor's degree and I have no plans to go back to school right now. The jobs I've had have all had absolutely nothing to do with the degree I've got, so i don't even know what kind of degree I'd be looking for... if I feel differently in a few years, we'll see. SPACEKATGAL - I agree! My husband has considered going on to grad school to get a master's in his field, but he's got friends and colleagues who have them who are no better off career-wise than he is, and now they've got mounds of student debt to pay off, too. So, until he's really convinced that a master's would do him any good, he's not gonna go for it.

I'm a sucker for punishment. I've already got two degrees and I'm itching for a third....I'm thinking either a Ph.D. or an Ed.D. this time.

Why isn't "I am back in school" an option?

I'm on the fence. I have a Masters and have finished all the 'necessary' schooling devoted to my profession, but I'd love to take classes for a language or two to expand, or history just out of pure interest... So, not really YES!!! and not really a NO...

I decided to go to med school, and I think it's the best decision I ever made.
