Is It A Good Idea To Date Someone Else Just To Get Over Your Ex?

O.C star Rachel Bilson is newly single. Like many other men and women who have just broken it off with a significant other, she is feeling strong, yet sad and a little bit scared to jump right back into the dating pool.

Yet, for such a fresh break up, Rachel sure seems to be getting an awful lot of pressure to date again...and fast. There are those who feel that you should get right out there and date someone new while others feel you should take time to mourn the relationship and heal.

Maybe life in Hollywood just moves faster than the rest of the world, huh? How do you feel about this topic? Do you think that it's a good idea or a bad idea to date someone else right away just to get over your ex?

I think that you need to heal before going out again; what's the point if your still not "over" the other person. And towards Rachel & Adam, Rachel hasn't been "back" in the dating pool. She's just hanging out with friends. (Yes friends mean guys too). Anyways, both haven't confirmed any break-up rumours so I won't believe they are over until one speaks.

I've dated to get over an ex and it has had mixed results.

I agree with moving on. It's worked in my past experiences. I also agree with waiting until you are strong on your own but sometimes dating will aid in rebuilding your confidence...knowing that you are attractive to others, you're still a catch, etc.

totally agree with Jinx! it is ok to date someone casually - knowing that it is nothing serious, to get over the break help u move on.. but then again it is a case by case really depends on how one feels and and deal with dating and breaking.

If you want to date just to get over someone, at least pick someone like George Clooney (lol) thats just into going out and having fun. It would be kind of unfortunate to use someone that might really like you as the rebound man. ~Procrastinate Now! Don't Put It Off~ (Ellen)

I'm a believer of one of my patented phrases, 'there's no future in the past'......when a relationship is over, it's just over., myself..I would definitely date people right away, it speeds up and even runs over the 'i'm sad' time for me. Hey Ima....I used your name! hehe
