@catepillargirl- what? just because she's non-genderconforming she automatically looks like a boy? that's ignorant. and she's kid, your "sarcastic" comment was undignified too.

I am proud of her for standing up for her civil rights and for questioning gender stereotypes. It's unfortunate that some bigots think it's OK to discriminate and hate just because she's gay. And I'm so happy that she has her mom's support, too — that must give her strength, and that's how it should be.

SKG - my husband worked for the local news stations when we lived in Charlotte, and it was hard to believe that people really are as ignorant and full of hatred for people who are different, until we moved to the south and witnessed it first hand. Some of the awful things he saw or heard while covering stories, I just couldn't believe it. He used to make sure that when he was shooting video, that he would highlight the amount of ignorance and hatred - but there is no embarrassing someone who believes their hatred it righteous.

She looks great. Banning her picture is stupid.

I just don't get it. She'd be able to wear a tux to her prom if she wanted to, why can't they post her picture in the yearbook in a tux? I will never understand some people and their reasonings.

ugh - skg - I lived in Charlotte for awhile and it's the same attitude. Bible thumping southern baptists that say it's their God-given duty to prevent gay people from sinning. I grew up in an area that probably has a LGBT bar for every two straight bars and the mayor of 20 years was openly gay, I didn't believe rumors of the southerner's intolerance was as bad as they make it out to be until I lived there myself. SKG- question - did you ever watch true blood on HBO? I watch it with my husband and I laugh because the southerner's reactions to vampires in the show reminds me so much of their reactions to the LGBT community. I see a lot of parallel's there.
