Well Said: Halle Berry Stands by Decision to Never Marry Again

"I'm not done with love, but I refuse to settle. . . . I'm not willing to stay somewhere where I am really not happy. And I am not willing to pretend I am for the kid's sake or so that I don't have to go through another public humiliation. . . . As much as I have always wanted to be in this committed relationship and have the picket fence and grow old with the same person, I'm coming to terms with: Maybe that's just not who I am."

Halle Berry's famously vowed to never marry again after her second marriage ended. Now three months after breaking up with the father of her daughter, Gabriel Aubry, she seems more certain than ever in Vogue's September issue.

This part: "As much as I have always wanted to be in this committed relationship and have the picket fence and grow old with the same person" makes the whole thing sad. It sounds like she's settling for the notion that she can't have that.

I agree with her. I am happily married and it's my first marriage, but if for whatever reason I got divorced I wouldn't marry again. And I don't believe in "staying together for the kids". They totally know when their parents are unhappy and it creates an unhealthy environment in the house. I know because my mom stayed with my dad even though she wanted to divorce and I just knew she wasn't happy (I kept asking her from age 8 to 16). They finally got divorced when I was 16 and it was a relief for my bro and I.

Her problem isn't marriage, it's the people she hooks up with.
