How Do You Come Back From An "Open Mouth, Insert Foot" Remark?

How Do You Come Back From An "Open Mouth, Insert Foot" Remark?

The other day when Billy Bush was interviewing Jennifer Lopez he asked her if she was “actively precaution free?" when discussing the topic of trying to conceive a child. Everyone knows that J.Lo and Marc Anthony have babies on their mind. This was a pretty personal and invasive question. Oh Billy, it's hard to recover when the whole nation is watching.

What kinds of things have you done to recover from a comment that you wish you could take back seconds after it passed your lips?

The very few times I do this.,I usually just go with it, or sometimes crack a joke., but I don't insert my foot "too" often so a slip for me is exciting!! ;) I remember a couple of times I just cracked up and said, 'pfft my bad'

I suggest taking your foot out of your mouth prior to any attempts at apologizing. No one'll understand a word you're saying if you leave it in there.

I'm the worse at sticking my foot in my mouth. After I mess up, I wont say anything. I will just get quiet and my stomach will do flips. I will follow whoever was around when I did it asking them "Was it really that bad?" For the rest of my life.

Ditto. Usually, if I say something REALLY bad, I'll immediately apologize and move on...but silently cringe inside for the next 4 months about it.

The crazy thing is billy bush talks to a lot of celebs on their downtimes..like he was on the phone with eva when she hurt herself....This was J-lo's first interview since her marriage..but they were talking about her having kids..but i still laughed on how it all went down...i usually try to laugh it off if i say something i may regret and pray they forget!!! ************************************************* ~*I heard your heartbeat, it took away my fear*~

I have a tendency to put my foot in my mouth. I'm a very say-anything type of person and it does get me in trouble sometimes. Some of the things I say can be interpreted negatively, when really I just speak very vaguely. When this happens I just keep talking and pretend I didn't say what I did. But it will be on my mind throughout the rest of the conversation because I will be worrying about how deeply I might have offended the other person.
