How Do You Feel About Wearing Fur?

For some time, fur has been a status symbol of wealth and old style elegance. It will also keep you bundled and warm on a cold winter's night. However, the way that fur is obtained is highly controversial.

Just recently, supermodel Kate Moss was given a hard time about wearing a fur jacket to a charity event which upset an anti-fur organization. How do you feel about wearing fur?

it's not fair. skin a human - it's murder. skin an animal - it's 'fashion'.

I do hope that each one of you who is against wearing fur is a strict vegan who lives an animal/animal byproduct-free lifestyle... ...because if you partake in the suffering of animals through the food you eat or the products you use, you shouldn't condemn others for doing the same.

I don't have a problem with vintage fur either.

The other day my mom in law gave me a fur stole that I think is beautiful. It belonged to my hubby's grandma and nobody wanted it because of the "cruelty" factor. Hubby who is a vegetarian didn't want it at my home either but I convinced him by saying that those minks were dear long before we were even born and there was no point in trashing something with so much family history (we have pix of grandma wearing the stole) just because ppl are against now. Now I just need to find a good furrier to clean it up. SO... no. I have nothing against wearing fur. Sue me. ______________________________________ ~~ Deck the halls with tchotchkes ~~

I dunno, I live in a complex culture right now. They eat inflated goose livers, veal, red meat, wear loads of leather and drape themselves in fur. I was raised in Canada where women wear a lot of fur in the winter because you don't HAVE to be in Alaska for it to be -45 Celcius (not sure what that is in F but I'm sure it translates in bloody freezing). Women who wear it here WALK everywhere they go and it keeps them warm. If someone put on a fur shawl in July then popped into their car, I think I'd see that as a bit weird...but for now, I get why it's inhumane but fur is someone's choice and if they are happy with it, then that's fine.

If you live in a place like Lapland or Alaska I have no problem with it. People of those regions have worn them for thousands of years. For fashions sake I have a huge problem with it.

fur is sick, i think people who wear it and buy it are sicker. in this day and age fur is always completely unacceptable. shame on you kate moss. :(

If you buy your furs from a responsible buyer (particularly those made by professional Native Americans) they will use the entire body of the animal they make. If you buy responsibly, ti's fine. Also, having one fur is okay. But having fifteen is taking it too far. ~* “I think the thing to do is to enjoy the ride while you're on it.” -Johnny Depp *~

I don't understand with all of the newer fabrics we have, like thermal and insulating coats, why anyone would need to be so primitive as to wear fur to stay warm. Yes it was necessary a century or so ago, but now with all the cruelty that goes on behind closed doors to produce the fur coats, why would you buy into that industry? The animals used for fur are normally anally or vaginally electrocuted, gassed, or stompped to death (in the farms) so as to not to harm any part of the fur, or drowned or trapped (in the wild). None of these tactics always succeed, so often, the animal can wake up while being skinned. I don't see any part of "fashion" in wearing part of a tortured animal's carcass.

i don't, i wouldn't, and i tell people i know not to. we don't NEED to wear fur, so don't do it. however, if you live in antarctica and you live off the fat of the land, killing your own seal and making a coat out of it is okay. how about this rule of thumb: if you wouldn't kill the fox and skin it yourself, then don't wear it.

I have 2 coats with fur trim, but am starting to feel self conscious wearing them with all the contreversy. (i realize that A LOT of people don't like it, and so i will feel bad walking by a protest or handing mycoat to the coat-check girl) But faux fur definently doesn't stay nice looking, so i think in the future i won't go for this look! kate's fur looks shaggy!! hehe def not my style~
