I'm Too Picky

I'm Too Picky

Dear Sugar
I'm a really picky person. I always find something wrong with a guy, no matter what. I've never been in a serious relationship and I've always wanted to experience one. But I always pass by an opportunity for a solid relationship because I dismiss the guys for flaws I find. I hate being so nit picky of people, especially since I know I am not perfect. How can I overcome this? Choosy Tracey

Dear Choosy Tracey
It's perfectly OK to have standards when it comes to men. Values and traits are good things to measure, but you've got to understand that no one is going to fit your romantic ideal 100%. Is he too tall? Too short? Think about if that even really matters when you are considering a life partner. Try and relax a little bit when you are out on dates - suggest doing things that you like to do so you are more comfortable. As soon as you feel yourself tensing up the moment a guy says or does something you don't like, take a pause. Excuse yourself and go to the rest room. Take a deep breath and then judge the action...Is it really as bad as you are making it out to be or are you just being too negative? You don't have to settle and you shouldn't. When the right person comes along, you'll know it. But try being just a little bit less critical of others and see if your perspective changes any. Most of all, have fun. That's what dating is all about.
