JC Watts Planning Black Television News Network Former congressman J.C. Watts is behind a major push to launch an all-news channel for black people. The network, tentatively called Black Television News Channel and slated to launch in early 2009, already has an agreement with Comcast cable to be carried in several cities with large black populations including Philadelphia, Chicago, Detroit, Washington D.C., Atlanta and Baltimore.

I understand that they might want to focus on issues that are more important to them. Just as Murdoch started FOX to focus on the Conservative perspective, they might want a different focus. Citizen had a thread the other month that compared the amount of press white victims like Natalie Holloway receive in comparison to black victims, and it was pretty staggering. I think that most news networks don't focus on the nitty gritty of the news enough, so I am very welcoming to other organizations who want to give it a shot. They couldn't be worse than MSN, CNN, and FOX! :)

I'm having a hard time understanding why this is necessary. What news that is only for the black community aren't we hearing? Do we want separate but equal, or do we want equality?
