President Barack Obama's sidekick, Joe Biden, turns 70 today! While the vice president is gearing up to serve his second term as Obama's right-hand man, he's had another person by his side for much longer: his wife of 35 years, Jill Biden.
We got a glimpse of Joe and Jill's sweet connection at the Democratic National Convention, as Jill made a touching introduction for Joe before his speech on the final day of the convention. She said, "When I first met him, Joe had already seen just how fragile life could be. When he was 29 years old, Joe lost his first wife and baby daughter in a tragic car accident while they were out getting their Christmas tree, and the boys were critically injured. Joe's life was shattered. But through his strong Catholic faith and his fierce love for our boys, Joe found the strength to get back up." Joe then took to the stage and thanked his wife, "Jilly," joking that he had no idea what he would have done if she turned down his fifth marriage proposal.
After he tragically lost his first wife, Joe was a single dad to his two sons for five years before meeting Jill on a blind date set up by his brother. And even after being married for more than three decades, the two seem to still have that special spark. At a political rally in 2008, Joe introduced his "drop-dead gorgeous" wife, and then at the 2009 inaugural ball he said, "I may not be able to dance, but I sure like holding her." They are just too cute! So in honor of Joe's big birthday, see Joe and Jill Biden's sweetest moments over the years.
