Judge Rules Army Corps of Engineers Can be Sued Over Katrina Flooding The Army Corps of Engineers can be held liable for flood damage caused by a "hurricane highway," a navigation channel that is believed to have funneled Hurricane Katrina's storm surge into the city, a federal judge ruled Friday. The Corps of Engineers had argued that it was immune from liability because the channel is part of New Orleans' flood control system. The law says the federal government cannot be sued if something goes wrong with a flood control project such as a levee, reservoir or dam.

I think everyone should pitch in when a city is threatened with sinking. I also recall a video conference of our president telling his staff not to worry because he's got it under control. I suppose when you're commander-in-chief tells you he's got you just assume he's telling the truth.

The problem isn't how FEMA didn't come quickly enough. The problem is why did the state and local government not do anything? In one picture of the aftermath, there were 64 busses parked, and flooded to their roofs. Why weren't those buses used to evacuate people before the hurricane? Why is it the governmnet's job to send emergency aid to every corner of the nation immediately? That's supposed to be the local government's job.

We shouldn't blame the government for the failure of responding to Katrina. How were they supposed to know a hurricane was coming? Like they have some magical forecasting machine that can tell you when the weather is bad? It's ludicrous.
