Banning contraception? You've got to be kidding me. Our welfare system is out of control as it is!

People who may want to ban contraceptive are in the vast minority and really shouldn't be lumped into the pro-life group. Pro-life people, like myself, simply think that killing little kids isn't cool. Right now, there are more than ten times the amount of couples who want to adopt as there are babies being put up for adoption. And no one is saying that it isn't hard having a baby that you didn't want in the first place, but giving him or her a chance to see how wonderful life can be is a good thing. And for those who do think that abortion should be "rare, safe, and legal" as the slogan says, we then should all work towards making it as rare as possible by encouraging women to give their babies to someone who will adopt it. Just a thought!

What I don't get about banning birth control pills is this - I'm on it to control PCOS. Do I get to have sanity-saving medicine if I promise to be a "good girl" and not have premarital sex? Or should I just suck it up and take narcotic pain killers/skip work for two days every time I ovulate and then again for 9 days every month when I have my period and I'm so anemic I can barely get out of bed? Have the anti-contraceptive people thought of that?

i wondered when we were going to get some roe day action up in here. thanks for the links, and for representing both sides, even though i myself am pro-choice, pro-privacy, pro-women, pro-babies and pro-family.

Well said ladies. Good to see there are plenty of choice supporters out there. Do us all a favor, and don't vote for Huckabee. His goal is to add an Anti-Choice ammendment to our Constitution. It's always nice when men tell women what they can't do with their bodies. So degrading!

As the great Bill Hicks said:"If you're so pro-life, do me a favor: don't lock arms and block medical clinics. If you're so pro-life, lock arms and block cemeteries."

Jillness, I couldn't have said it better! I really hate calling people like that "pro-lifers." As some of you brought up, they're not really "pro life" at all. "Anti-choice" is my preferred term, but I guess it's all semantics.

The biggest move toward female liberation was the pill. It allowed women to be something, ANYTHING, besides pregnant. And Jillness is right, there are fewer abortions when people are well protected and well educated.

That's always been the Pro-lifers agenda - messing around in other people's private business, telling people who can and cannot have sex and with whom, dictating how women run their bodies, then chastising them for being wh*res and their children for being bastards. Always found it odd that a large number of Pro-lifers were also pro-death penalty. Spotted onoe Pro-lifer wearing a shirt this weekend saying "Death penalty for abortionists!" My mind was boggled.

Jillness, I totally agree. There are less abortions when there are fewer unplanned pregnancies.

The Pro-Lifers that want to ban contreception need to read up...It has been proven that the number of abortions is LOWEST in areas where 1.) it is legal, 2.) contreception is readily available, 3.) sexual eduction is factual and available. (This is from global studies). The only way to work towards the common goal of fewer abortions is to educate people and give them access to contreception.
