Welcome to our Fall in Love series featuring authentic love stories from all different kinds of couples. If you want to be featured, here's how. Today's couple — Aaron and Kaitlin — live down under in Sydney, Australia. Kaitlin's from San Francisco and Aaron's originally from Auckland, New Zealand. I'll let them tell you how they met.
TrèsSugar: How long have you been together?
Aaron and Kaitlin: Six years.
TS: What do you do for a living?
A & K: We're cofounders and directors of Spark* International, a not-for-profit organization empowering the next generation of leaders in poor communities.
TS: How did you meet?
A & K: In 2004 after time in Iraq with the Australian Navy, Aaron left the military and wound up managing a nightclub in Spain. And one night Kaitlin, a newly single college student from San Francisco, found herself drinking in that very club. Aaron liked what he saw, jumped over the bar, kissed Kaitlin, and then introduced himself. During that Spanish Summer we shared our passions, inspirations, and desires to do something good.
After 18 months apart, and 18 months together in Sydney, we sold everything we owned, packed up our backpacks, and took a one-way flight to Kenya. We spent the next two years working on the frontline of extreme poverty. Our latest project, called Spark* International, is a not-for-profit organization that enables young leaders in some of the poorest places on the planet. Spark* believes that extreme poverty is the challenge of our times and is dedicated to seeing it put into the history books.
TS: Describe the other person in one word:
A & K: Kaitlin describing Aaron: Visionary. Aaron describing Kaitlin: Compassionate
TS: What's the one thing you have most in common?
A & K: Passion to improve our planet.
TS: What's the one way you differ the most?
A & K: Kaitlin can dance salsa, Aaron can't.
