MI Ad Likens Stem-Cell Work to Tuskegee Study A television ad created by opponents of a ballot measure that would allow embryonic stem-cell research in Michigan likens such work to the infamous Tuskegee syphilis study. The ad, which began running Tuesday in the Detroit, Flint, and Saginaw areas, shows newspaper headlines and other references to the Tuskegee study.

Sometimes it makes me wonder if people actually know what stem cells are. Or, in this case, what syphilis is, or what happened in the Tuskegee study. This is why science and history are important, kids...

This ad completely trivializes the horror of the Tuskegee Experiment. Not to mention that the comaparison between the two makes absolutely no sense. As far as I know, people willingly donate embryos for embryonic stem cell research.

Not only is it horrible, it doesn't compare or make any sense.

That is just irresponsible. It gives no thought to the men who died in the Tuskegee Study nor the impact that study had on the community as a whole.

I don't see how the two connect at all. It is a shame that people can be duped so easily.

I can't believe they would diminish the men who died from this study by comparing apples to oranges. This study was horrible, when penicillin became available to treat syphilis, the doctors withheld the information instead of treating the disease, they let it progress until death. Inhumane.

I had to look up what the Tuskegee Study was (pretty horrific stuff, folks), and I don't see how that's an accurate comparison. But I guess 'accurate' wasn't really what they were going for.
