The word mancession came about as men lost jobs at a disproportionate rate to women during the recession. Last year, economist Casey Mulligan noted women would soon make up the majority of the workforce, and last month men outranked women in unemployment three to one.
Now today on International Women's Day, we find out that no matter how quickly or strongly — manly — the economy bounces back, the mancession is here to stay. Especially in professional jobs where women continue to delay childbirth and outpace men in obtaining higher-education degrees.
Another meaning for "mancession"? Seems like a Carrie Bradshaw-type word for a dating drought. But I am not advocating that usage!
