McCain Backer Hagee Said Hitler Was Fulfilling God's Will

McCain Backer Hagee Said Hitler Was Fulfilling God's Will John Hagee, the controversial evangelical leader and endorser of Sen. John McCain, argued in a late 1990s sermon that the Nazis had operated on God's behalf to chase the Jews from Europe and shepherd them to Palestine. According to the Reverend, Adolph Hitler was a "hunter," sent by God, who was tasked with expediting God's will of having the Jews re-establish a state of Israel.

I heard the full quote last night where he reads the Biblical text he is referring to. WOW, it has nothing to do with his interpretation. He literally ties in Jewish people from nowhere. Jewish people are specifically mentioned in the Bible frequently, so I would think if God meant Jewish people in this story he would have been specific. The fact that Hagee spun up this interpretation from nothing is scary to me.

Wow, this is shocking! I had never heard of John Hagee before all this - his views and "sermons" are so appalling!!

I think Hagee and Wright will only serve to further the hatred for the candidate they endorse. Arguments can be made that both are relevant (McCain sought Haggee's, but Obama was in Wright's church for 20 years). Neither are good measures of the men in question, and both should be ignored.

It's about time the media outed John Haggee and those "sermons" of his. The problem is John McCain actively sought out his endorsement - which makes it relevant.

ABC is doing reports on Rod Parsley - I don't see how anyone can shrug off McCain's connection to both these guys. Any religion Hagee doesn't insult, Parsley handles.

He actually said Hitler was "sheparding" Jews? Yeah, sheparding them into the gas chambers.

The Reverend Wright stuff with Obama was absolutely everywhere... for days and days. This needs to be everywhere too, TV and papers. This story isn't even on It's blatant that it's a racial thing.

I'm okay with the tiny thread - a lot of important stories get tiny threads and are completely ignored, especially early in the day. As long as we find it, that's what matters.

OMG, I was wondering the same thing how come the tiny thread but I guess we should be happy it was mentioned at all especially when you consider he's been spewing this hate for a while now!

I think this information needs to be out and people need to be aware. McCain was happy and proud of the endorsement. I don't base my opinion of a candidate on the speech of others, but I DO base my opinion on how the candidate reacts to the questionable things that are said. Jillness, I agree: Why is this just a tiny thread?
Jillness Jillness 8 years
I find it interesting that saying God sent the Nazis and that Hilter was God's hunter only gets a tiny little thread, instead of a full sized one.

You know, the idea of a Jewish state was first put out there by Christians who thought that if they put all the Jews back in Israel/Palestine that they would set the stage for the second coming. It wasn't until later that the Jews themselves got into the idea. Kind of what this guy reminded me of. It is so disgustingly anti Semetic. As if the Holocaust is at all justifiable. I don't get these people.

Hagee is a sheep in wolf's clothing. His messages are seething with underlying hatred for those around him, whom are different than him. Therefore, I find it quite disturbing that McCain actually seems proud to have Hagee backing him. Nothing I have ever heard stream from Hagee's mouth, has been positive or more so, logical.
Jillness Jillness 8 years
McCain actually sought his endorsement. I don't think McCain shares these views, but it is troubling to think that he would make a deal with the devil for political gain. This story, ultimately, probably won't go that far. First, Fox News is completely hypocritical and will not air this information for 2 months. Secondly, and this is an assumption...I don't think that your average democrat is going to be swayed with this. Like Raci said, I think most people recognize that we have huge issues that our country needs to address, and focusing on periferial figures doesn't help with that. I just hope that the Jewish community learns the truth about Hagee.

It should also be questioned WHY McCain is so grateful to have Hagee endorse him! Funny how McCain gets a free pass on this for SO LONG! "Hagee, of course, is also a virulent anti-Catholic, who has suggested that the pope is the anti-Christ, and that Adolf Hitler’s anti-Semitism was the result of being educated at a Catholic school."

I think it is very important for this to be out there. Hagee heads a few organizations that claim to be supportive of Israel and the Jewish community, and clearly he doesn't really feel that way. He is a wolf leading the lambs to slaughter, even though he tries to portray his Israel stance as being considerate of the Jewish people. I have felt for a long while now that Jewish organizations were being GREATLY mislead in this political race, and now maybe they will question their sources a little bit more. They do not deserve to be mislead.

According to Hagee must not think highly of God, according to him God is one angry dude! I HATE that these nuts are even relevant, but I must say this, at least Wright was not this bad.

While I don't condone using crazy people's statement just because they endorse you... but the information deserves to be put out since so many people had a field day with the Write crap.

I think Wright and Hagee should both be left out of this campaign. They're both irrelevant.
