McCain on Obama's Speech: "I'd Love to Give a Speech in Germany. . . But I'd Much Prefer to Do It As President"
Today as his rival prepared to deliver a major address to the throngs in Germany, John McCain counterprogrammed with a more modest event bound to invite comparisons. McCain made the remark at Schmidt's Sausage Haus und Restaurant in Ohio. Though Obama was amid a sea of people, he also drew criticism for his decision not to visit the troops. A McCain spokesman said, "Barack Obama is wrong. It is never inappropriate to visit our men and women in the military."

He didn't really say he wouldn't speak in another country nor did he say he hasn't. He said he'd prefer to give a speech in Germany as president. I don't see how that equates to him forgetting that he spoke in Canada.

Well, if he does end up speaking in Germany, he'll do well to remember that Vladimir Putin is not their president.

I don't think he should go into a home, but I also don't think his home should be the White House.

Plus it was at a club, a conference, it wasn't a stump speech unlike Obama's. And he wasn't meeting with the leaders of Canada or speaking in front of a national monument. Again, not saying it wasn't a dumb thing to say, but there are significant differences.

It was a stupid thing to say, but are we really supposed to take this and run with it as McCain is crazy and senile and lets shove in a home?

Well he's not perfect! But on the grand scale of gaffes I think this one is pretty low! Besides, Canada's gov't probably isn't a huge Obama fan after all he's said about NAFTA (though his aides have a different opinion).

Cab, he forgot what he did last month!

If McCain wins, I'm moving to Germany... and I'd like for him not to be there. He's just hatin'.

Or maybe its because Canada is our partner in NAFTA and Germany is our partner in .... what exactly? The UN? Not saying it wasn't a bad thing to say, but on the list of gaffes this one is def. not the worst.

Maybe it's just in Germany that he'd like to be president before he speaks.

If you like to read that speech, you can find it on McCain's website. June 20, 2008 "ARLINGTON, VA -- U.S. Senator John McCain will deliver the following remarks as prepared for delivery to the Economic Club of Toronto in Ottawa, Canada, today at 1:00 p.m. EDT: Thank you all very much. I appreciate the warm welcome to Ottawa, and the hospitality of the Economic Club of Toronto. The reputation of the Economic Club as a place for serious discussion of policy is well known in America, and I am honored by your invitation. There aren't any electoral votes to be won up here in the middle of a presidential election. But there are many shared interests that require our attention today, and many Canadians here I am proud to call friends." http://www.johnmccain.com/informing/news/Speeches/6925c6d4-93fe-4ff4-bfb0-bd1e1aed3c3b.htm

Now is this just one more thing McCain forgot or is he just a liar?

My message was flagged but McCain did give a speech on June 20, 2008 in Canada. The trip was paid for by his campaign. He praised NAFTA in the speech. http://firstread.msnbc.msn.com/archive/2008/07/24/1220326.aspx

He went to Iraq after his candidacy was secured, didn't he? It was the trip he held the press conference/speech where he messed up the names of the countries, I believe.

McCain gave the speech in Canada in June. "I would rather speak at a rally or a political gathering any place outside of the country after I am president of the United States," McCain told O'Donnell. "But that's a judgment that Sen. Obama and the American people will make." However, on June 20, McCain himself gave a speech in Canada -- to the Economic Club of Canada -- in which he applauded NAFTA's successes. An implicit message behind that speech was that Obama had been critical of the trade accord. Also, McCain's trip to Canada was paid for by the campaign." http://firstread.msnbc.msn.com/archive/2008/07/24/1220326.aspx http://blog.washingtonpost.com/the-trail/2008/06/19/democrats_question_ambassadors.html
