McCain Strategist: "If We Keep Talking About the Economic Crisis, We're Going to Lose" McCain's course correction reflects a growing case of nerves within his high command as the electoral map has shifted significantly in Obama's favor in the past two weeks. "It's a dangerous road, but we have no choice," a top McCain strategist told the Daily News. "If we keep talking about the economic crisis, we're going to lose."

When did you fight for more regulation Dave? Republicans have held the White House for the last 8 years, they dominated Congress for longer than that - if regulation had been a major concern, they would have pressed for it. They didn't, not at all. They were more concerned with usurping civil liberties. Republicans wouldn't know personal responsibility if it bit them on the ass!

And when we wanted more regulation, we were told by the democrats that there wasn't a problem with the people running fanny and Freddy.

That 'perception' wouldn't exist if a Republican administration and Republican controlled hadn't gotten us into this economic mess. Even the CEO of Lehman's says more regulation is needed.

I understand what McCain is saying, and that is that the perception is that the democratic party is going to do more to help people get out of something like the depression, and it's unfortunate that that impression exists, because it isn't true.

WELL SAID MANDY!! Americans want to hear about how the candidates are going to attack our problems, not each other! Unfortch for Palin, you can't insult your way out of an economic crisis. It takes more skill than being able to land a zinger to run a country. I am just SO AMAZED that they would publicly say that they want to "turn the page" on the economy. Um, the 159,000 people that lost their jobs can't "turn the page". Neither can the 90 year old Ohio woman that shot herself in the chest to avoid foreclosure. .

I said that to someone just a little while ago Jacaranda! This has Rove stank all over it.

Unfortunately if you prescribe to the straight talk express strategy, there really isn't anything else you can say about the crisis. It will take a while for the bailout to work. Things pretty much suck and will for a while regardless. McCain is going to go straight Rove style from now on sicking his little attack pit bull Palin on the Obama campaign.

"Soooo, the economy is important enough to suspend a campaign over, but not important enough to actually address while campaigning." I could not have said it better MM.

Soooo, the economy is important enough to suspend a campaign over, but not important enough to actually address while campaigning. That picture is priceless.

So basically...they'll lose if they talk about any issue that's actually relevant to the average voter. Surprise, surprise.

"We'll lose if we talk to people about the issues, but we want the White House so badly we'll throw mud at the guy they actually approve of until they vote us in. Shows a serious disrespect for democracy and the intelligence of the American people" You just summed up all of the Republican Rove-ian tactics right there. It goes something like this.. attempt to run on issues and morals and when that fails, throw your morals out the door while still grandstanding on them and start the Fear campaign.. FEAR FEAR FEAR FEAR.. I can't believe they haven't brought back the color warning system and set us at Orange yet. :OY:

I hope you're right, mich. Any other sources on this?

Is anyone else skeptical that someone in the McCain camp actually said this? I mean, seriously?

Wow...forget what the American people want to hear! Country first alright.

Unfortunately for McCain, this economic crisis is being FELT down to the average middle class American. It's not something we read about in the newspapers/magazines and know it's looming over us. Just yesterday as I was taking a cab back to my apartment, the taxi driver was flipping out the entire ride over, about how he has never had such little business on a Sunday and is so worried because he doesn't know how he can afford to keep his taxi running what with gas prices today and more and more people using cheaper modes of transportation.

I actually find it confusing. We'll lose if we talk to people about the issues, but we want the White House so badly we'll throw mud at the guy they actually approve of until they vote us in. Shows a serious disrespect for democracy and the intelligence of the American people - IMO

I think it is obvious that this is what the McCain camp is thinking, but it funny that someone confirmed it!

Makes you proud, doesn't it? I'll lose on the issues.
