Last September, my boyfriend broke up with me over a five-line email. I had a speaking engagement at Juniata College, but that would have to wait. I canceled the speech and fled to Vegas for a girls' weekend.
So she played hooky? Haven't we all? It's probably a bigger deal to cancel a speech than call in sick for work, but canceling is not a crime. I've gone to work after breakups when I definitely should not have, so if it was canceling versus crying on stage, then she did what she had to do.
However, if you are in the public eye in any way, and your official reason for canceling is "several unforeseen professional responsibilities," don't visit a city synonymous with partying and certainly don't post about it on Twitter.
Do you sympathize, or should she have known better?
