My Brother Is Too Young For Drugs

Dear Sugar
The other day I went looking for some air freshener to spray in the bathroom and I finally found it after about an hour of searching. It was in my brother's closet.

But while I was looking around, I found a questionable looking box off to the side with a lamp directly over it. I can't believe that my brother is growing and possibly smoking pot. He's only 16. I think that's way too young for drugs.

I don't know what to do? Should I tell my parents or should I confront him directly? Snooping Sister

I don't know what your relationship is like with your brother, but I think it's probably best to pull your parents in and let them deal with it since that's their job.

You don't have to come right out and tattle on him, but you can direct them toward the box in the closet. Your parents are going to be the enforcers anyway so they should handle it.

You are only looking out for his well being; you don't know if he's dealing it or how it's affecting his school work. If you approach him, it could cause future tension between the 2 of you, and later he might try and tattle on you for something you've done.

If you try to get him to stop and not get your parents involved, but threaten him with that, chances are that he won't take your threats seriously - and then he could try and use it against you as blackmail in the future.

Sixteen is not that young to smoke pot, but it's relatively young to know how to grow it. I used to be pretty snoopy when I was very young, but at this point, I think it's best for you to talk to your brother. Getting him in to trouble with your parents is soo not going to strengthen your relationship with him ever. I learned that the hard way when I was 11 and found my brother's secret stash of beer.
