Obama Arrives in Afghanistan
Obama arrived in Afghanistan early Saturday morning, according to the Illinois senator’s campaign. Prior to departing from Washington, DC, according to the pool report of one of the reporters accompanying him, Obama said he is “looking forward to seeing what the situation on the ground is.” He added that he wants to “talk to the commanders and get a sense, both in Afghanistan and in Baghdad of what their biggest concerns are. And I want to thank our troops for the heroic work that they’ve been doing.” This is Obama's first trip to Afghanistan.

I am so glad he and the entire media are finding out these facts together and having no photo ops.

It's nice that Obama is going home to visit his brethren.

:rotfl: It's really nice of the White House to help out there. Now McCain needs to develope his own exit strategy, gettin the troops out in a year. We can then debate about how quickly we can pull out. Sounds like a boy on prom night. "How quickly can you pull out?"

Nice of the White House to help vary the headlines: The White House this afternoon accidentally sent to its extensive distribution list a Reuters story headlined "Iraqi PM backs Obama troop exit plan - magazine." The story relayed how Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki told the German magazine Der Spiegel that "he supported prospective U.S. Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama's proposal that U.S. troops should leave Iraq within 16 months." (ABC News)

Dave, I agree, by inviting such a large entourage he's made it a glorified photo op and media circus. Not unexpected, though.

I think Obama asking the media to join him on this trip has really taken the credibility out of the journey.

Ooh, that made me giggle! But seriously. I am a fan of Mr. Obama, but I'm bracing for a ridiculous media blitz.
