Obama License Plates — Love It or Leave It?

The Land of Lincoln is now proudly the Land of Obama. The state is selling specialty license plates dedicated to the 44th president and donning his face. Proceeds from the $50 plate go to the Illinois Library Association.

I love this, but I wouldn't put it on my car. I'd probably use it to decorate my desk or room.

I'm sorry, I like this SOOOOO much better than the retarded plates or coins. Like someone else said, if people can put their sports teams' license plate things on their car, why not share the love they have for our new President? And whether or not he's done anything yet in office has nothing to do with the people that like him already and have high hopes for him.

License plates get dirty. It's not a place for a president's face to be on.

As long as it's not mandatory who gives two poops? You can get license plates to show your support for sports teams, the pro-life movement, golf, all kinds of stuff. Guess what, I don't support any of those things! But I don't go OMG that is SO DUMB. I just...don't buy them! And regarding stickers...who puts political stickers on their cars? We have magnets now. I still have my Obama magnet on my car, but when I sell it, obviously I will want to take it off.

My wife tried to take her Obama/Biden sticker off her car over the weekend. I'm still laughing at the failed result.

Kast, I know bake sales are for chump change. I was being half facetious and half pointing out the multitude of other fund raising possibilities, but I'm sorry your library faced such a huge cutback.

I would totally buy this if I lived in Illinois, because the money goes towards supporting LIBRARIES. And nowadays they need as much help as they can get. Obama has been a supporter of libraries for years - he spoke at the ALA (American Library Association) conference in 2005 and, um, he's written two books. So it seems pretty fitting to me!

As someone from IL, who cares, someone will buy it and it will be helping the libraries.

I still laugh at the Gore/Edwards stickers myself.

I find this to be very reflective of our current society. Too obsessed with whatever is popular at the moment, and doing whatever they can to make a quick buck off of it. I obvs voted for President Obama, and I support him. Seriously though, this whole "put his face on everything" ordeal, has got to stop. All it is doing is making a mockery of our President.

So what is next a little blue book containing the quotations of President Obama?

Haha, I still laugh at all the people with the Bush/Cheney stickers on their cars.

I can tell you for a fact that a bake sale does not raise any sort of adequate funds to supplement a library budget. We had several last year and they did not in any way replace the 30 grand that was slashed from our book budget. Bake sales only got us a several hundred dollars at a time. We would have had to have 20 of them. The mini golf tournament got us a third of the way there, though. :) We also had yard sales, raffles and a murder mystery show. We were desperate to hold on to our certification. I prefer to leave politics off my car, but if it raises a decent amount of money for the libraries than more power to them. You would think people would want to see what kind of president he is before getting a plate.

Are you kidding, i think this is ridiculous and being an Illinois resident I will not be purchasing

If it helps the Illinois Library Association to raise funds then go for it.

Umm, could we please let him actually accomplish something (and to be specific, I mean something positive) before we start commemorating the amazing things he's done?

"You could at least wait til the first 100 days are up to decide if he's the next FDR (because ppl put his pic up everywhere during the GD) or if he's the worse thing that's ever happened to this country." Haha, what's the difference?

People are angry and crazy enough as it is in traffic, why would you want to add politics to that? I really hate bumper stickers, and I dislike this for the same reason.

*sigh* I really like Obama. I think he's done well so far, especially for all the previous junk, expectations, and scrutiny that's been heaped on him. But everybody's trying to make money any possible way they can, especially in this economy...this license plate is a bit much, though. I really hate that all this Obama "memorabilia" makes him seem like some sort of dictator/demi-god, when *he* doesn't see or portray himself that way. Other people [from across the political spectrum, from the fangirls/fanboys to the critics] created this nonsense.

It's a good way to raise money for libraries.

Genesis pretty much said it all. Obama hasn't done anything yet to make be excited about him or hate him. I'm still in the middle and waiting to see the job he does before making a decision. All this Obama memorabilia is getting to be a bit much though.

exactly Genesis.

I've said this before but I'll say it again: It's way too soon to judge him. You could at least wait til the first 100 days are up to decide if he's the next FDR (because ppl put his pic up everywhere during the GD) or if he's the worse thing that's ever happened to this country. Don't be too hasty to judge him either way.
