Oh Snap! Tokyo Bar Redefines the Ice-Cold Drink

The Icebar in Tokyo is so freaking cool. And very cold. Everything there is made of ice cut from the Torne River in Sweden, including the counter, walls, glasses and chairs! It's so chilly in there, they lend you a coat when you go in.

Sydney and London also have ice bars, that supply the right clothing to wear upon arrival

I hate being unnecessarily cold, so I would probably not venture into such a place.

they had this in Sweden and Finland first, up in the Lapland regions. in Finland there is a whole hotel made of ice. and in Sweden, it's an Absolut bar made of ice.

I went to a bar like this in Stockholm, you had to wear a massive park and you had special mittens to wear in order to hold the drink.

This is not now at all, I know about a bar like this in Switzerland. I'd never go there, though. I'd rather be warm inside a bar than freezing!

A friend went to a bar like this that was actually *in* Sweden (or maybe Denmark?), which makes slightly more sense.

They have this in Vegas, too.

I had the same thought when I read it, Chat! I struggle to understand the Japanese Obsession with over-the-top gimmicks like this. Why would you want to go to a bar where you have to cover up in a jacket or be cold? Why is this considered "trendy" when it's obviously so bad for the environment and such a waste of a precious resource (water)!

This seems intensely wasteful! You can use each shot glass exactly once and then it's contaminated, so you have to throw it out. Ugh, I have so many issues with this. It looks neat, but it's just so wasteful.
