Poll: Is Iraq's Greening Putting the US to Shame?

Poll: Is Iraq's Greening Putting the US to Shame?

Iraq became the most recent nation to ratify the Kyoto Protocol this week. With Australia ratifying the agreement last month, the US is now the only industrialized country who hasn't signed on. Ironically, the emissions standards will be fairly easy for Iraq to meet since the US presence has slowed the industrial economy considerably. Since developing countries aren't held to any standards under the agreement, did Iraq sign it just to embarrass the US?

They should sign it but I know they never will. Which is very sad.

I totally agree with you Caterpillar! I really don't get why people want us to sign if it neglects to enforce the rules on China and India.

THIS IS ABSURD!! Everyone in Europe and the rest of the world has been aware of global warming for decades and most people are actively trying to fix the problems and even though the Kyoto agreement is far from perfect it was a great first step. The Bush administration has consistently denied the existence of the climate problems and is now trying to act like "the good example" for other people?? Please, this would be an improvement but everything is not about embarassing the US, there are greater issues out there so how about working together instead of mixing global issues with the war on terror??

The question for this poll is: "Did Iraq sign it just to embarrass the US" and the answers given for the poll are hardly a straightforward yes/no. I don't understand how: "Yeah, the environment is important, but the Protocol might not be the answer." is an answer to whether Iraq embarrassed the US.Are discussing the merits of the treaty, or if Iraq deliberately embarrassed us?Sorry I must be in a bad mood but I swear sometimes the answers you get to pick from on these polls don't answer the questions, or they assume your Yes or No is tied to some other issue.

Everyone who signed the Protocol Cheated! They cheated and then complained. The US didn't sign because the terms of the agreement were ridiculously un-balanced. Something clearly needs to be done about he environment and commitment need to be made but sign a piece of paper and not sticking to it is not going to solve any of our green issues.
