Poll: Public Mixed On Michelle, Doesn't Know Cindy
People are divided over whether they like the wife of Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama, with 30 percent seeing her favorably and 35 percent unfavorably. They tilt positively toward the spouse of Republican hopeful John McCain, by 27 percent to 17 percent. In other words: While the two women are about equally liked, Michelle Obama is twice as disliked as Cindy McCain.

Just to clearify, the descriptions of the women is not exactly my own, I was describing how I think the world sees it w/o any research. Auntie Coosa, are you taking fact finding lessons from Michael's Moore's evil twin?

Weird but I never thought of Michelle as angry. I have thought of her as smart and strong, but I've never seen her as the discontent woman many media outlets have made her out to be. Those who think the media have been soft on Obama, should take a look at what they've done to her. So much scrutiny. I saw a wheel of clips the other day on CNN that reminded me of the HRC media clips. Except MO was also likened to a terrorist for a fist bump. :oy: I do agree with lil on Cindy. I used to look at her as this Stepford trophy wife until I read the Vogue article about her where they emphasized her charity work and her adopting her daughter. Obviously they only did that to protray her as a generous and saintlike figure but it still gave me new perspective on who she is. Now I have a more respect for her. I don't want her as first lady, but only because I don't want her husband to be president. At the end of the day I'm voting for the man running and not the woman standing by his side. If I were voting on the wife though, for all I like Cindy, I would still vote for Michelle. She reminds me of my (white) stepmother. Intelligent, opinionated, stylish and unapologetic about being a strong woman.

Very interesting Auntie - it's funny because the word that comes to mind with me for Michelle Obama is "angry" and you said the same thing. She reminds me alot, unfortunately, of Omarosa from The Apprentice, and it seems (to me) that the only person who has a problem with Michelle Obama being black is Michelle Obama.

Michelle Robinson Obama is one angry female. Her daddy got his job in Chicago as payment for helping the Democrats there. (It's verifiable.) She got all kinds of grants and qualified for loans for college. And then goes and writes her thesis on racial divide. QUOTE: My experiences at Princeton have made me far more aware of my 'blackness' than ever before," the future Mrs. Obama wrote in her thesis introduction. "I have found that at Princeton, no matter how liberal and open-minded some of my white professors and classmates try to be toward me, I sometimes feel like a visitor on campus; as if I really don't belong. Regardless of the circumstances underwhich I interact with whites at Princeton, it often seems as if, to them, I will always be black first and a student second." Regarding Cindy Hensley McCain: QUOTE: In 1991, while serving at one of Mother Teresa’s orphanages in Dhaka, Bangladesh, Cindy encountered two infant girls who needed medical treatment that could only be done in the United States. She brought them home with her and obtained the medical care they needed. Then she and John adopted one of the girls and named her Bridget, who became their fourth child. Bridget is now fifteen years old. Cindy also arranged for the adoption of the other child as well. So, now WHO do YOU want in the White House?

I dislike Michelle Obama because in her Larry King interview she made a statement in one breath, then said the exact opposite in the next. It gave me the impression that she just says what she thinks people want to hear.I don't see Cindy McCain as super housewifey, but I do think she is more personable.

I'm not a fan of scrutinizing candidates' wives so closely. But in any case, Mrs. Obama is a strong, intelligent, educated working mother and, in my impression, a tough tough woman--all qualities that make me like and admire her more, rather than less.

They are equally liked but Mrs. Oama is much more disliked. And I agree, it's because she speaks up and gives people something to have an opinion about.

I'm not implying that there's anything wrong with being a housewife. I just disagree with the notion some people have that Cindy is one-dimensional. I also disagree with the notion many people have that women who work outside the home are in some way better than those who don't, but that's another story for another day.

Cindy also runs her family's company and has been active in charity work for years. She is much more than a housewife.

eh...not surprising, traditional roles are still preferred, Cindy looks like housewife Barbie and never says more than a few safe words. Michelle is miss Harvard Law who was her husband's boss at one point and likes to talk about things a woman shouldn't concern herself with - jee, I wonder what a majority of people will prefer?

Was Laura Bush so heavily scrutinized? I don't remember hearing anything about her prior to the 2000 elections. Including killing people with her car.
