Quiz Nation — A History of Olympic Protests

I'm out watching the Olympic torch run in San Francisco right now! While I get the real story for you, check out a little history of the games in question. China isn't the first country to host Olympics under a shadow of protests. The high-profile event, which commands the attention of the world, is an attractive forum for activists.

Today demonstrates that political controversy is as much of an Olympic tradition as athletic competition. Take this quiz to find out how well you know the story of Olympic protests and boycotts.

Schwarzenegger is born Austrian, but so was Hitler, too. Anyway, the Games turning more and more into a farce. It's always said they are just about sports, and not about religion and/or politics, but when you look at it in the whole picture: they are always about religion/politics.

I don't think China has us by the scrotum sack just yet. Yes we have mortgaged ourselves almost into oblivion, but we can still right this ship. As Obama has said, we need to stop awarding companies who ship jobs overseas, and start awarding companies who don't. We also need to reign in the unions who feel that a guy doing a job that any person could do deserves $30+/hr. and to have all his health care paid for.

The Olympics thing is really hard. China has us by the balls! We can't stop lead toys from coming in the US, we can't stop tainted dog food, and we don't really have a leg to stand on when it comes to protesting the Olympics. We are indebted to them far too much to make them angry.

I only learned about the Nazi/torch relay connection this morning with Tom DeFord's commentary on NPR. I usually can't stand the guy's commentary but today was by far my favorite.

Isn't Schwarzenegger Austrian raciccarone?

Yeah, that Schwarzenegger really takes pride in his heritage but I think doing that to downtown Sacramento goes too far.
