There is also the fact that the embargo has been going on for 50 YEARS and it has not made one bit of difference with the amount of freedom their people have. This tactic hasn't worked, it is time to find another option. Repeatedly doing the same thing and expecting a different result foolish. We were scared of Cuba because of their old ties to Russia. Time to move on!

Not only is it criticized, LadyC but our Cuban sanctions are also labeled an illegal action by every major peace organization across the globe. When you place an embargo on a nation it is tantamount to declaring war on its people, not it's government, because those are the true victims. The embargoes did nothing but consolidate Fidel Castro's power and ensure his lasting reign. The Kennedy's, by far, were the worst abusers of this strategy, by the way.

The embargo is stupid. Its just another childish something the US government cooked up (and NOT a conspiracy theory). I did a research paper on the relationship between the United States and Cuba and found that the embargo was criticized by the United Nations in the early 90's and the response that our government cooked up: "Cuba's military is a threat to the United States". If they're such a threat, then why have we been renting land to keep a top secret military base on their island since 1902? (They actually used to have 2 military bases in Cuba, however, they closed one of them to expand on the other). Sorry, I can't help it...I'm a bona fide nerd.

I don't smoke, but says they are: Cuban cigars are illegal in the United States, except for pre-embargo cigars which are very rare and extremely expensive. If U.S. citizens attempt to buy, own or bring any Cuban cigars into the U.S., they may be subject to fines and other penalties, depending on the particular circumstances.
