Rejection Makes Women More Attractive

Stop denying your last boyfriend ended things, because it turns out straight men find women who were dumped in their last relationship more attractive than those who did the dumping. Meanwhile, it's the opposite for straight women; they lust after the male rejecters.

While researchers at the University of Michigan were surprised by findings — expecting both men and women to prefer either the dumper or dumpee — I can't say that I am. With absolutely no scientific proof, I can say that men are terrified of rejection, possibly more than women. So, of course, they're going to go for the girl without a track record of breaking hearts.

I'm on OkCupid and when I put a message about healing from a recent breakup, the e-mails started to flood in. I was getting up to 15 a day. I was getting a lot of people IMing me on the chat, asking what happened and if I was the dumper/dumpee. Weird.

I can see reason for liking both the dumper and the dumpee. To oversimplify: dating a dumpee likely lessens your chances of being dumped (and I do find vulnerability attractive, I don't know what that says about me, haha); dating a dumper likely means this person is the type to be straightforward with you when the relationship is over instead of acting like an ass waiting for you to be the one to get a spine and end things. But of course the real world is not that simple. There are all kinds of variable circumstances for why people were dumped or why they did the dumping. And like the stock market, past performance is not an exact indication of future performance.

(Aside from my current relationship) I've been dumped in every relationship I've had (3)... all without real reasons (mainly petty high school/college boys being boys and wanting to hook up with other chicks.) My current boyfriend has dumped the 2 girl friends he has had in his life, so this is true to us! Weird though.
