Relationship Protocol: What Holiday Tradition Have You Created?

I think one of the best parts about being in a relationship is creating new traditions together, unique to the life you live as a couple. Of course, incorporating each other's family traditions is always fun, but so is instating an after-Thanksgiving hike with your hubby every year or a putting up Christmas lights while eating your leftovers. If this is something you've done in your relationship, tell us, what holiday traditions have you created with your significant other?

We get a tree and spend a night decorating it while drinking festive cocktail (mmm....eggnog). Then, even if we can't spend Christmas together, we have somewhere to celebrate before or after.

I would love to start a tradition with my hubby...this will be our first xmas as a married couple. Unfortunately, he doesn't really care about stuff like this so I'll have to think something up on my own.

Breaking up right before Thanksgiving. :) Seriously. That jerk even knew that I went broke to buy him his Christmas present. He could have had the decency to say "RETURN IT!" before it was too late.

We started dating on Christmas day 3 years ago... so we have a brand new tradition called: Christmas is a huge quagmire of frustration for everyone involved! My parents, his parents, our anniversary... etc - I don't even want to know what it will be like when we have kids. For now, we each spend Christmas eve separately with our families (my parents are divorced but we still have dinner together on all family occasions - one less headache to worry about!) then we go home on Christmas and pack, and leave for whatever great destination we've picked to celebrate our first kiss!

the ex and I used to watch 'the polar express' around christmas time, and it's something I've kept up by myself since

We started this when we first lived together - on Christmas Eve, after I get back from midnight Mass, we sit out on our balcony and have a glass of wine. We don't drink wine together very often, so taking the time out to do this makes it pretty special. This year (if all the final pieces fall into place) we'll be able to do it on the back deck in our new house! This taught us that wine doesn't always keep ... the first few years we had Beaujolais nouveau, which is only sold between late November and New Year's ... then one year I forgot to get a bottle and we had something random from the wine rack ... it was way too old and it was awful! This year I'll make sure to get something just for that night.

my other half and I watch Scrooged together every Christmas, and we open our Christmas presents on xmas eve because we're like two little kids impatent to know what we got, and impaitent to give our presents. It was like that when he proposed. He knew he wanted to propose on Valentines day but got so impaitent waiting that he ended up asking me at 12am on Feb 14th haha.. Our tradition is just loving each other so much we cannot wait to share.

i'm hoping to start some this year. we've always had to rush around to our respective parents' places. i hope there's snow, so we can make snow-people for our front yard -or something else equally as corny.

We got into the habit of sleeping outside under our crab apple tree on Christmas Eve while living in Miami. Now that we are in a colder climate I have no idea what we will do.

I don't think we've really started any yet. But we've only been together for 2 years. On our birthdays we do get each other pinatas and we've decided that's something we're going to keep doing. I'd love to hear what other people say though, maybe it'll give me ideas!
