Relationship Protocol: When The Cat's Away, Do You Play?

Relationship Protocol: When The Cat's Away, Do You Play?

Does the old saying when the cat's away, the mouse will play ring at all true in your relationship? It's a common notion that when a significant other is out of town, the other half gets a "hall pass." While I'm sure that's appealing to some, others might use that time apart to catch up on alone time, to get errands run, or to simply spend time with friends and family. So when it comes to your relationship, tell me, when the cat's away, do you play?

My partners going to Europe for two months in a week and I told him in no uncertain terms that if he played around while over there I'd return him to his parents as a eunuch. The same applies to me, I respect and love him and our relationship too much to "have fun" while he's away. I'm not really one for girls nights out, so most I need to worry about is some guy coming onto me in a book store and getting a whomping.

When my man leaves for the weekend to attend to his family that lives in another state I'm always making sure I have what I need to be comfortable! He takes care of me a few day's prior so that away I can rest up for when he comes home! Cheating is not my thing so when the cat is out the mouse stays in!! I never go out with friends while he's away, I just spend time with my family b/c it's safer!

If you mean "play" as in cheating, then NO. But at some point every woman needs a little time to herself anyway.

I'm so glad I'm not the only one who enjoys to spend that time alone! I eat what I want to to eat, when I want to, I watch girly movies, I go through my closet and try on everything and create new outfits, I do fancy beauty treatments (facials, hair masks, waxing- all the things he doesn't really need to see). I LOVE my time alone, and then when he does get back, I feel refreshed and relaxed!

nope. I'm currently single but if he was out I would probably be at home with a girly movie, red wine and my pet rabbit Willum. I wouldn't want him to be off 'hall passing' whoever caught his eye so I wouldn't do that to him, lol! Plus, I agree with the other posters, I have girls nights regardless of whether my partner is away or not - I don't need him to be interstate or overseas to spend time with friends and family. I'd like to think that I wouldn't ever do things that he would be upset about - regardless of his location at the time of the incident.

Eh no. I do my own thing and have my own interests and life even when he is in town. Plus like Sun_Sun I have tons of fun with my man...I don't feel like I am suffocated or anything...I am myself the most around him. When he's away normally that just means i go to the gym more or end up hanging out a bit more with the gf. Considering I wouldn't want him to mess around and get a 'free pass' flirt with girls and etc I wouldn't do that to him.

I am in a LDR, thus trust is hugely important so no cheating happens. Girls nights happen though! :) I live for girls nights!

Time alone for me is time to relax, do "girl stuff", chill out with a friend. I certainly would never do anything to hurt someone I love, especially someone as sweet and loyal as my boyfriend is. Could a person be more immature than to do that to someone behind their back? Yuck.

When my husband's away, I take the opportunity to not cook, hang out with my girls and catch up on all my errands and girly movies!

I take advantage of the alone time - a bottle of wine, some yummy snacks, sex and the city. The kind of stuff I wouldn't do with him around so I can spare him the boredom!

I don't do anything I wouldn't do if he were around, whether that involves going out or staying in. I've got nothing to hide :]

gets a "hall pass." ... thanks for the shout out Dear...can I get some author's credit to go with it? :ROTFL: Have never, would never. Cheating is not my thing. Now, alone time, I have two weekends a month when the kids are gone and it's pure bliss!!! I thoroughly enjoy my own company. :)

I love my 'me only' night, when the SO is absent: take out, a movie, a bottle of wine and a long shower. Mmmm... It's fun heading out with my girlfriends, but I prefer to watch them hunt and give the running commentary while I sit back and chill.

well since I'm in an LDR it's sort of the opposite! when he's here I play!!

If this is about flirting with other guys, I prefer to do that IN FRONT OF my SO so that it triggers beneficial jealousy hormones, that translate into even more beneficial activities afterwards ;) For me, any involvement of another guy in the scene is only appealing if it comes down to us and our relationship (for example, in the form of healthy jealousy or, comparisons in which my SO always wins :) )

Depends on what your definition of play is. Girls' night...sure. Cheating...NO!

It's one thing to go out and flirt, but it's a completely different thing to actually hook up... what does a "hall pass" entail anyway?
Marni7 Marni7 7 years
although I am not sure about this "hall pass"..I have my fun but do not disrespect my relationship either

No...I feel too bad! I mean, I might have one girls night but I love my baby and usually miss him. I don't want to do something that I wouldn't approve of him doing soooo I play nice ;)
