The sun was shining in Tampa Tuesday, but there was still a dark cloud over the Republican National Convention, as Hurricane Isaac picked up steam and headed to Louisiana. Despite the storm, the GOP still had to get to business of officially nominating Mitt Romney, and by the end of the night, his wife Ann's sunny speech lightened the mood.
We'll hear from the nominee himself on Thursday, but on day one it was all about high-profile Romney surrogates making the case for the Romney/Ryan ticket. On Tuesday morning, I ran into actor Jon Voight, who invoked his Jolie-Pitt grandchildren in support of the Republicans' vision for America's future. After an afternoon of mingling with delegates and checking out the Google lounge, I headed to the Tampa Bay Times Forum for the main events. Republicans including Rick Santorum, Nikki Haley, Mia Love, Chris Christie, and Ann Romney all made impassioned speeches on behalf of Romney. If you're curious what the Republicans got up to, check out my recap of day one.
