Rich Men Have Long Index Fingers

Man Hands: Rich Men Have Freakishly Long Index Fingers

There's a 30 Rock episode where Tracy Jordan tries to get in touch with the common man, so he befriends a janitor, saying "I like you. Can I feel the rough skin on your hands?"

Judging economic status by hand smoothness is good enough for Tracy Jordan and Charles Dickens novels but not science. Nope, science got scientific and found rich guys have index fingers that are longer than their ring fingers.

To be fair to the researchers, the connection between finger length and money is a byproduct of a larger study. Large amounts of testosterone in the womb affects finger length, and large amounts of testosterone in life make men alpha — wealth and success inevitably follow. But is anyone taking this seriously?

Yes. The longer the index finger, Fiona Macrae writes in the Daily Mail, "the greater the chance that he is a go-getter who doesn't take no for an answer, whether it is sealing a financial deal or trying to win a girl's heart."

Yes, because that's what all women want: men who don't take no for an answer.

I find the photo accompanying this article a little ironic, since the man in it seems to have freakishly SHORT fingers, no? Doesn't it look like he has little hobbit hands?

*re-reading post* That is, if you meant longer ring finger. The high-five still stands, either way.

You're right, postmodern. I'm checking out my hand right now and I'm a little dissapointed that I'm not a rich man.

Wait... I think I'm mixing up studies here and I'm a little confused if anyone knows anything further.I thought that a longer RING finger rather than INDEX finger meant that you have more testosterone? In women, it is much more common for the ring finger to be shorter than the index finger (seriously, take a look at your hand and let me know). I was always fascinated by this, because I have been unable to find a woman with a hand like mine, where the index finger is actually shorter than the ring finger (which is what most male hands look like). Therefore, it can be said that I have more testosterone than the average female for my hands to have carry the predominantly male trait of short index finger, long ring finger. So my short index finger and long ring finger mean that I have more testosterone, wouldn't a man whose index finger is longer than his ring finger have more feminine hands, and therefore less testosterone?
