SNL Spoofs the Palin/Couric Interview: Lay Off or Loving It?

SNL was almost wall-to-wall politics last night, with an ersatz debate match-up, a faux Bill Clinton making an appearance on "Weekend Update," and this spoof on the Palin/Couric interview from earlier this week. Compare it to the original and see what you think — did they nail it? Or do you wish there was a joke where the punchline wasn't "Sarah Palin?"

Our economy would have been better if we had given every one in Iraq $100,000 and let them take care of business. Who wants 4-8 more years of losing your pension in the stock marker?

At some point, someone needs to admit, "sunk costs" and realize that losing more soldiers isn't going to vindicate the earlier losses. The thing is, it looks like Iraq is doing a lot better now, is safer than it was four months ago, which is really exciting. But I was watching "60 Minutes" and they asked Iraqis if they liked life better now, or under Hussein. Some of them responded, "well the freedom we have now is good, but under Hussein we had electricity and running water." At the very most I can look at this war in humanitarian terms, and so it's depressing that so many Americans lost their lives, and we spent so much money, and many people in Iraq aren't even happier. Is that really making us safer? Omg...battle of the bracelets...power ranger style! I think the bracelets are silly, but I wasn't sure if Obama pulling his out was like, equally silly, or if it just made McCain look funnier. It was amusing, nonetheless. But I am just a horrible person...so...

>I honestly think I may have more with a BA in International Affairs. You probably do! So does Angelina Jolie, someone did the math. In fact, Jolie may be overqualified. >Then why aren't they touching all of Biden's gaffes? He sure is supplying them. Because they're not in the news so no one would get the joke. We can talk all day about MSNBC and Fox being biased, but I hope we're not going to try to apply the same standards to a sketch comedy show.

I am a McCain/Palin supporter, but I thought the first half of this skit was hilarious... it started to lose my attention about halfway through though.

I thought it was funny. And being poked fun of is the price you pay for being in the spotlight especially, if like Palin, you provide so much fodder for jokes. It's not SNL's fault she is laughable.

i'm all for poking fun at people and we all know that SNL is a good forum for it, but i think that pepole just need to lay off. i hate to say it, but it's not like they can badger palin enough to not be mccain's running mate so i'm not sure what the point is of continuing to tease and make fun of her.

It was hilarious. I especially loved when she asked to use a lifeline. "Can I phone a friend? No? Well...then, I'll get back to you!"

Tina is brilliant as Palin! :rotfl: I adore these SNL spoofs though they aren't so far off from reality... Palin needs some serious coaching if she is going to do these interviews. :oy:

"So no matter how ridiculous the mission, the deaths are never in vain? That's a scary thought. It excuses all kinds of frivolous use of the armed forces." Good point.

If you told me they were going to find the Holy Grail...then maybe their deaths would be in vain.

Adrenalynn75 Adrenalynn75 7 years
Ok...then let me rephrase this...i don't thing their deaths are pointless, useless or futile. Is that better?
kastarte2 kastarte2 7 years
IDK but maybe it was not in vain because it was a sacrifice for their country? :? Even if they did not successfully carry out a mission, they still died for the cause, right?
Michelann Michelann 7 years
Do you know what the phrase 'in vain' means? It means it was pointless, useless, futile. I'm not saying it isn't an honorable sacrifice, I'm saying that if you don't accomplish the goal, the deaths needn't have happened at all. Therefore, they were "in vain".

I disagree Michelin, but we I don't really want to argue in circles over this so I'll spare you. If that's your feelings, then so be it. I don't share the same sentiment, and I'm sure a few vets including my father who fought two tours in Vietnam don't feel the same.
Michelann Michelann 7 years
I guess whether it was touching or silly just depends on your perspective. However, I take great issue with the idea that "no soldier dies in vain in war that we send them out to do." That's ridiculous. If the soldiers don't accomplish what they intended to accomplish, then the death was in vain. Even if they do accomplish it, and the task was meaningless, then the death was in vain.
