Sarah Palin Confirms Daughter Bristol is Pregnant

Sarah Palin Confirms Daughter Bristol Is Pregnant

Vice Presidential candidate Sarah Palin is confirming that her 17-year-old daughter, Bristol, is pregnant. Here's the statement from the campaign:

We have been blessed with five wonderful children who we love with all our heart and mean everything to us. Our beautiful daughter Bristol came to us with news that as parents we knew would make her grow up faster than we had ever planned. We're proud of Bristol's decision to have her baby and even prouder to become grandparents. As Bristol faces the responsibilities of adulthood, she knows she has our unconditional love and support. Bristol and the young man she will marry are going to realize very quickly the difficulties of raising a child, which is why they will have the love and support of our entire family. We ask the media to respect our daughter and Levi's privacy as has always been the tradition of children of candidates.

The announcement is “intended to knock down rumors by liberal bloggers that Palin faked her own pregnancy to cover up for her child,” according to Reuters.

What do you make of the news?

Wow it's unbelievable how much a political campaign can make us forget real life. Everyone is debating this child's choices against her mothers beliefs like there is some mind control she could have instituted to make her be the way she wanted her. I was brought up in a Christian home with Christian beliefs that I held onto and I STILL had sex before marriage. I was taught abstinence as well as preventative sex education and can answer almost any birth control STD or moral question about sex in a second. The truth is we are human and no matter how much information we have or how strong our beliefs are our emotions sometimes get the best of us and we make bad choices. I don't know why everyone assumes that this girl is just itching to have an abortion but because of her mother and her "puritanical" lifestyle she is being forced to keep the baby. Is it so hard to believe that she may actually WANT to keep this child. And all of you saying that her life will be changed, you're right. But that would be the same whether her mother was running for VP. And as far as the special needs child goes, it does take extra effort but it has to be a whole family effort anyway. My sister was special needs and my mom was single mom. We all helped out and she was so well cared for and protected. but no one can do it alone. I applaud this family for facing their issues and not just hiding them. No on is denying anything or trying to spin it to make themselves look better. To me that seems to speak to a certain character. And if anything the character of a candidate will determine my vote. We all have real life issues to deal with so why not judge a person on their response to life instead of criticizing them for being a part of an imperfect world

Does anyone have any evidence that she is making her daughter get married? If not, I would stop accusing her of doing so. And teenage marriages can work. They don't always work, but they can.

Making your daugther get married to make u look good isn't the right thing to do.... She thinks that she can just focus people to do what they want.... It will only work with her family.... IF she makes it to office when she it out of office her daughter will be in divorce court....

Again, I apologize. Poor phrasing on my part, perhaps.

I don't know what sort of rudeness you are talking about and I apologize if you were offended. I thought this was a fairly respectful discussion. I guess disagreement = disrespect.

I can't speak to CNN - I don't watch it. I do, however, often flip to Fox News when I want a good laugh. The newsmodels are quite reliable for a chuckle.

As I discussed earlier in this thread, it shows such hubris and unwillingness to really think things out when you demonize the other side and refuse to examine what your own side does. Pundits on both sides treat candidates on the other side badly. That doesn't mean that either party (meaning actual members of the establishment) does the same.

If you think CNN and MSNBC aren't as biased as Fox, you have serious blinders on.

Fine, then, I heard this story being discussed on CNN and they were extremely disrespectful, as well. I just used Daily Kos as my example because I knew they were the first to "break" the supposed story about Trig.

Daily Kos is a blog, not a "news" organization with a slogan of "Fair and Balanced." While I am not a reader of Daily Kos, the site's "about" page clearly states it's liberal political position. Fox News, on the other hand, is simply ridiculous in its attempt to cover its bias.

And my future brother-in-law, one of the nicest and most kind-hearted people I know, is divorced and has two children. Sometimes it just doesn't work, no matter how hard you try. The way you talk about divorce is extremely insulting.

So kamiko, how is that Wikipedia information supposed to reflect negatively on McCain? His marriage began to falter because neither party worked hard enough on it, he met someone else when their marriage was basically already over, then he got a legal divorce. Kim H, you have a lot of research to do on McCain's supporters. I am a McCain supporter, as are many of my friends, and not one of us it against premarital sex. And kamiko, Democratic news outlets (i.e. Daily Kos) have already picked up this and made it look negative, so your point about Fox News being so much more evil than Democratic news outlets is moot. As for the war, sending a volunteer in to battle is quite different from killing an innocent, but you knew that already, didn't you? And Ginger, she didn't know her husband's specific plans on his work situation. I doubt that means she just decided to run without even consulting him. Also, I'm pretty sure her family would move with her, so the whole across the country argument doesn't really fly here. Yes, there would be days when she may not see her children. There would also be days when Barack Obama may not see his children.

KimHCreations - I have always felt that the Republican Party opperates under the assumption that their supporters were "born yesterday." (Note that I did not say that I think they were...)

I do not buy into the assumption that this was a political ploy, leak or cover up. Even so, does it really matter? Because it would seem that the real issue here has been largely forgotten; this is a TEENAGE girl who is pregnant and not only are her parents praising her for it, it looks like a lot of other people are too because at least she’s doing ‘the right thing’. Since when is a teenage pregnancy the right thing? Whatever happened to adoption? I happen to believe that admitting you made a mistake, and that you’re too young to raise a child, let alone get married, and then letting someone who isn’t able to have children adopt the child is the right thing. So, now that were supposed to believe the republicans will win votes because Bristol isn't having abortion? Give the McCain supporter's some credit: they weren't born yesterday and have firm beliefs that don't sway much, no matter how you dress it. The demographic’s of McCain supporters aren’t only against abortion; they are even more against premarital sex, forget teenage sex. I just don’t understand why teen-pregnancy has become so celebrated and glorified, which started long before this and that is what most shameful.

No, I don't think divorce necessarily 'makes' someone a bad person. But McCain had kids with his first wife, and that makes it a lot worse, disturbing, for me. They had been together for a long time too... not very family oriented, right? I am pretty sure that the democrats will not negatively campaign on the republicans shady (divorce for a younger woman after kids) or unusual (pregnant teen) family issues, while if the situation was reversed, *i think* the republicans would get nasty and snarky and try to mention what ever was negative quite often to get away from the issues. Ok, when i say 'they' would mention it, i mean fox news would... And while they are 'pro-life,' they think nothing of giving up more and more young adults lives (whose parents miss them VERY much) i mean, abortion is bad but parents or war victims pain must be substantially more, no? It really makes me wonder if they are 'pro-life' only for the bible belt votes, and not because they actually CARE about anything but the oil money they want... sorry, i know this is very partisan but i got carried away defending my divorce comment~

if anybody is interested, and since this thread is still going, this is some info from wikipedia about John McCain's transition from first to second wife: McCain's return to the United States reunited him with his family. His wife Carol had suffered her own crippling ordeal during his captivity, due to an automobile accident in December 1969.[53] Her husband became a celebrity of sorts, as a returned POW.[53] McCain underwent treatment for his injuries, including months of grueling physical therapy,[54] and attended the National War College at Fort McNair in Washington, D.C. during 1973–1974.[55] Having been rehabilitated, by late 1974, McCain had his flight status reinstated, and in 1976 he became commanding officer of a training squadron stationed in Florida.[53][56] He improved the unit's flight readiness and safety records,[57] and won the squadron its first Meritorious Unit Commendation in over twenty years.[56] During this period in Florida, McCain had extramarital affairs, and the McCains' marriage began to falter, for which he later would accept blame.[58][59] McCain served as the Navy's liaison to the U.S. Senate beginning in 1977.[60] In retrospect, he has said that this represented his "real entry into the world of politics and the beginning of my second career as a public servant".[53] His key behind-the-scenes role gained congressional financing for a new supercarrier against the wishes of the Carter administration.[54][61] In April 1979,[54] McCain met Cindy Lou Hensley, a teacher from Phoenix, Arizona, whose father had founded a large beer distributorship.[59] They began dating, and he urged his wife Carol to grant him a divorce, which she did in February 1980...
