Sarah Palin's Record in Office Detailed in the New York Times Gov. Sarah Palin lives by the maxim that all politics is local, not to mention personal. So when there was a vacancy at the top of the State Division of Agriculture, she appointed a high school classmate, Franci Havemeister, to the $95,000-a-year directorship. Ms. Havemeister was one of at least five schoolmates Ms. Palin hired, often at salaries far exceeding their private sector wages.

GS [93]: TRUE, TRUE and I appreciate your diplomacy ;) But, I guess many of us feel like banging our heads on the wall in frustration trying to figure out WHY??!!! We are seriously afraid for our country! I "think" it would truly give a lot of us comfort to actually hear something promising from the Republican Party ~ in the event they were to win.

I'm assuming that if this story is false, we'll see on factcheck.org So far, nothing on their site about it.
Adrenalynn75 Adrenalynn75 7 years
Caterpillar, I'm just pointing out the facts you left out. I understand people start out small, but those people you mentioned by no means were unqualified for the positions they held. Now the people Sarah Palin hired...from what I read in that article were'nt. But until Palin or McCain or their campaign can defend those claims, all we have is what the media tells us. Because we can't trust ANY of the politicians to tell us the truth.

Palin is Swiftboat in a skirt. She's a distraction that I will no longer address.
Great-Sommelier Great-Sommelier 7 years
You realize that is just your opinion, right? That there are many of us who feel the exact opposite about what or who is level headed.

I agree with HarmonyFrance, but it is apparently hard for some people to look at the bigger picture. I think it is time to put guns, abortions, Palin (?) and whatever else they want to use as pawns for votes to notice that in the news today two more big corporations have filed bankruptcy and possibly a third under the Bush Administration. I think this election is more important than the popularity of the words "Democrat" and "Republican". WE NEED LEVEL-HEADED LEADERS IN OFFICE this round!!! WE NEED TO VOTE DEMOCRAT THIS TIME!! "Stocks posted big losses in markets across much of the globe as investors absorbed bankruptcy plans at Lehman and Merrill Lynch's forced sale to Bank of America for $50 billion in stock. And perhaps most ominously, American International Group Inc. is asking the Federal Reserve for emergency funding." http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080915/ap_on_bi_st_ma_re/wall_street caveat: I think President Reagan was a great president with whom I voted for, but I think it is pertinent to note he didn't plan on getting Alzheimers his last term, so AGE is a factor in addition to cancer with McCain....not to mention his being a very cynical person with poor diplomatic skills.

I'm talking about responding to EVERYTHING. They are on the defense and are not going to let anything untrue get past them. So why aren't they responding to this? They are on the attack.

What's you're point GirlA? McCain is playing the same tactics that Obama is. Is his campaign the most dishonest campaign in history then?
girlA girlA 7 years
Well GS, here's the point I'm trying to make: McCain's campaign has explained its tactics confessing that when McCain played nice in 2000, he lost. McCain's spokesman said: "Clearly we intend to stay on offense . . ."--so I'm assuming they'll address the latest soon enough. From Karl Rove: "McCain has gone in some of his ads —similarly gone one step too far, and sort of attributing to Obama things that are, you know, beyond the 100-percent-truth test. They don't have to attack each other this way. They have legitimate points to make about each other." The Obama camp piled on Rove's admission, saying: "In case anyone was still wondering whether John McCain is running the sleaziest, most dishonest campaign in history, today Karl Rove — the man who held the previous record — said McCain's ads have gone too far."

Both sides responds to EVERYTHING! Especially things that are getting this much attention.

adrenalynn, i understand that you like to argue, but i didnt say they were clerks than VP did i? my point was that people start out small......geezus.
girlA girlA 7 years
Oh yes, the real issues like creating attack ads based on a pig and lipstick comment...gotcha.
girlA girlA 7 years
Perhaps they're having difficulty spinning it, so it's taking longer than usual to respond...just a thought.
Great-Sommelier Great-Sommelier 7 years
They are and they aren't. One, you have to look for it because the mainstream media isn't going to show it. Two, they aren't even going to justify the stupid rumors and laughable pictures with their time when they are discussing the real issues.
Adrenalynn75 Adrenalynn75 7 years
girlA...that's the million dollar question no one seems to have the answer for.
girlA girlA 7 years
If this article is bias and full of lies, why are Palin/McCain's people not talking and defending themselves?
harmonyfrance harmonyfrance 7 years
Oh my GOD. Who cares about this woman? There are so many more important issues to be talking about. Our economy is in the toilet, we are in 2 wars...these are REAL problems. All I care about is how the potential running mates are going to deal with real problems. As any 12 step program will tell you the first step to this is ADMITTING YOU HAVE A PROBLEM. Why on earth do so many people in this country think that we are fine the way we are. I don't get it. *rant over*
UnDave35 UnDave35 7 years
That would make sense GS. Who would want to actually dig for real facts when you can get it second hand, and with a liberal twist.

It has been reported that the only sources for the NYT article about gov. palin are 7 people who have openly stated their dislike for Palin for years.

Morton was an elected state resprensative before being VP. Adlai E. Stevens was an elected Congressman before he was VP Alben W. Barkley was elected to the US House Representatives before he became VP Humphrey was Mayor of Minneapolis, before he worked his way up. Again, please tell me what qualifies a person to manage a $2 million dollar agency when your list of qualifications includes "a love of cows"
CaterpillarGirl CaterpillarGirl 7 years
Levi P Morton, VP to Benjamin Harrison, was a dry goods clerk than a banker before being appointed to congress and than onto VP. Aslai E. Stevens VP to Grover Cleveland ran a Sawmill, before becoming a lawyer than onto being VP Alben W. Barkley was a full time janitor before he became a lawyer and eventually VP to harry Truman Hubert Humphrey was a pharmacist before working his way up to become VP for Lyndon Johnson *my point is sometimes people start out in "regular" jobs, and become motivated to make a difference politically. A person who works retail, isnt qualified to seek office?
Jillness Jillness 7 years
Sounds like Palin would have been a great appointment to the Department of Justice under Alberto Gonzales! All we need is another person who values croniesim above all else. Maybe she can give us our next "Brownie". Did you read that the person who she put in charge of the economic office had the mind blowing qualification of running a Mailboxes Etc. franchise?? They had to oversee 500 staff members and said they had hoped they would get help with that!

Obama's earmarks even out to $24 per person in his state, when the national average is $27. Palin's average is $800 per person in her state, the highest in the nation. There is a HUGE difference there. The fact is, the McCain camp has been repeatedly LYING to the American people on Palin's earmarks. Maybe it went towards valuable projects...but if that is the case, don't try and sell the bunk that she is a champion against earmarks. To say that she didn't request them is a FLAT OUT LIE. Why try to sell her on a point that is factually inaccurate?
Adrenalynn75 Adrenalynn75 7 years
OMG...out of 700K, people, you couldn't find one that directly worked with agriculture? They have farms there, right? And it's good to hear the other side say something about their small population. I mean, was'nt the biggest stretch of the truth about her "executive experience" was that she ran the biggest state?
Roarman Roarman 7 years
The fact that her high school friend who loved cows and formerly worked as a real estate agent isn't proof enough that she practiced preferential treatment in filling public positions? What more do you want?
