Say What? Male Model Says He Diets, Too

"I dropped 30 pounds to do this.”

— A. J. Abualrub, née Ahmad Jalal, about getting ready for the Roberto Cavalli men's fashion show in Milan. Scouted by a Ford modeling agent in his native Kentucky, the 22-year-old former high-school wrestler practices martial arts. But being athletic didn't account for the primary way he loss weight. His diet secret to fitting into leather and neoprene pants that, as Guy Trebay says, don't provide "what you would call a lot of wiggle room" was meeting with a nutritionist and eating only two meals a day. See? Some men adhere to impossible beauty standards, too.

It seems odd to me he's having to diet. I used to hire models for a living and I should know. The ones I hired were always eating and looked fit. They were more concerned with the exercise. Not so thin like that guy. However he is only 22. Sometimes young guys are thin like that. Later in his 30's he might fill out more. He looks OK but a tad thin for sure. Two meals a day? I don't know if that sounds right for a guy his height and weight. Surely he's in the gym burning off half those calories.

He's way too skinny. Not attractive to me. I have a friend who was scouted by an agency in NYC to model for Calvin Klein. He worked as a personal trainer in NYC and he is a former marine. He had huge muscles and a rock hard body and they wanted him to slim down and gave him three weeks to do so. He didn't end up making the cut.

This guy doesnt look "gorgeous" to me, he looks malnourished, like one of those people youd see living on the river in Thailand who have to work for hours for every ounce of food they eat

I know a male model and he is obsessed with what he eats and how many times a day he works out. It is sad.

Too skinny and pale for my tastes. Guess sadly that's the modeling world :(

Ew. I like tall skinny guys but that's not beauty..that's just bones.

Definitely nothing new, all models diet. Though I wish the men (and women too) were not such sticks.

Not unusual for a guy (especially a model) to be concerned about weight & looks.

He looks kinda icky to me. Too pale and scrawny, and I'm not even someone who's really into the muscular/larger type.
