Say What? Plus-Size Model Crystal Renn Isn't Hungry Anymore

Say What? Plus-Size Model Crystal Renn Isn't Hungry Anymore

"Even though I was accomplishing my dream, I was absolutely miserable. I was torturing myself every day by going to the gym every day up to eight hours a day and starving myself."

— From anorexic to plus-size model and now author of the memoir Hungry, Crystal Renn tells Good Morning America how she suffered to get where she is now. She thought she had signed up for a dream job when a modeling scout told her she had the look. The catch? The 5'9" Renn was told she needed to shave nine inches from her hips and lose around 70 pounds — which she did, at one time weighing only 90 pounds. Older, wiser, and a lot less hungry, Renn should be a lesson to us all: don't lose yourself (figuratively or literally!) to make anyone else happy.

I'm assuming runningesq is referring to my comment in the Tyra post. I agree with tlsgirl - one model with an eating disorder does not mean that no naturally thin women exist or that no models are naturally thin. As I've said before, the majority of runway models are under the age of 21. Many are as young as 15-17. Therefore, they obviously aren't going to look the same as the naturally thin people you know who are in their mid to late 20's or older. Most women experience some changes in their body type between their teen and adult years. Look at Karolina Kurkova - she was much skinnier at 16 (when she first became famous) than she is now in her mid-20's. Granted, she still looks amazing, but it's obvious that she's aged and changed just as we all do. Kate Moss is another good example - she's still very thin but not "scary skinny" like she was in the CK ads of the mid-90's.

I think this picture is from before when she was too skinny, I have seen more recent photos of her and she looks much healthier. Gorgeous gal.

I was referring to a comment made in Tyra + SATC comment. And - I have friends that are naturally thin... and they look nothing like high fashion models.

One model with an eating disorder does not derail the entire naturally thin argument.

so much for the "naturally thin" argument so many people make.

While she isnt plus by normal standards, modeling standards have plus being from size 10 - 20; whereas i consider it maybe 16 up. and maybe she has good facial bone structure, which is one of her modely features and why she IS a model and i am not. not all plus sized anything has to be round as a blueberry. her work is great though! shes one of my favorite models, plus or regular sized.
