With this sexy new commercial, perhaps Ikea hopes to convince the public that its affordable beds are sturdy enough for activities beyond sleeping. The ad, which is not safe for work but apparently safe enough for Spanish TV, goes inside the Ikea-furnished bedrooms of Spanish lovers. Nothing is left to the imagination as barely clothed couples (OK, some women are topless) roll around in bedspreads you may recognize. It ends with a sexy slogan that works perfectly for the brand: "No es mas rico lo que mas tiene, sino menos que necesasita" — "One isn't rich when he has more, but when he needs less."
The commercial, being played heavily on Spanish TV, would likely outrage many Americans. But I think it sends a wise and healthy message. Would you take offense if you saw it on your TV during prime time?
