Are There Still Certain Things You Won't Do in Front of Your Parents?

Even though I'm a grown adult, there are still certain things I don't feel comfortable doing in front of my parents — kissing, drinking too much, etc. — some things are just meant for your peers. Since I'm not a smoker, I can only assume that I'd feel the same way about smoking cigarettes, but it's pretty clear from these pics that Katherine Heigl doesn't agree! Of course, all family dynamics are different so tell me, are there still things that you don't do in front of your parents? And if so, what are they?

Drinking, especially since I'm only 19. I don't drink that often but we just got back from a family reunion where everyone was drinking all day long and I drank a little bit during the week that we were there, so I had to be so careful to avoid my dad.

Definitely discussing sex in any way with my mom. I barely talk to my father so I feel uncomfortable talking to him about anything. I don't feel uncomfortable using words like hell, damn, and ass but apparently my mother does. My mother forever thinks I'm 5.

Cry. I don't mind crying on my own, but its wierd, I hate the idea, loathe it, dread it, of crying in front of them. Which is strange because they have always been pretty sweet and supportive people. A bit flaky, but good eggs in general.

with my dad, i hold nothing back. funny, he was the first one to ever offer me a drink, smoke or..this is bad..drugs..lovely family, eh? but never did the drug part seeing what it did to him. my mom, i talk freely with her, sex, swearing, we drink together, we've smoked together back when i was smoking. once i hit a certain age, they began to realize that i grew up and could make choices of my own. they make not agree with them, but it makes me my own person in how i handle myself around them. and i've got them to thank for it.

Ugh, I so love her on Grey's and in 27 Dresses - but she has seriously got to quit smoking! So nasty!!

I won't smoke in front of my parents and I rarely will have a drink around them.

Until last year I didn't drink in front of my parents and then it just got to the point where I said "eff it!" and I am glad I did. I feel like I was sort of holding something back, and now it feels like a more mature, peer relationship. I still don't curse as much around them as I do around my regular friends -- but then again, there is no real need to. Most of the time :)

I can be a toned down version of myself around my parents. Like someone said before (sorry I don't feel like scrolling back up lol), they're PARENTS, not friends. Out of respect, I don't cuss or drink or crack dirty jokes. Especially dirty jokes, since I would just make them embarrassed.

I still don't swear in front of my parents. If I'm telling a joke or something, and it's in the joke I'll say it. I know they probably don't mind it, but I don't like doing it anyways. I don't smoke but I wouldn't smoke in front of them. I think I don't do much because I do like to drink around them during dinner or what not, but they always have a problem with it. Guess there are some things that they'll never want me to do no matter how old I am!

BTW, when dining with other family members, like aunts & uncles, grandparents, etc THEY sometimes get a beer and my parents have NO problem with it. Every family is different.

I've only seen my mom sip champagne ONCE in my life, and only seen my dad drink 1-2 beers a couple times a year. AND, I've NEVER EVER seen them order an alcoholic beverage in a restaurant. They used to drink more in their college & young 20s, but they've gotten more involved in church (my dad's now a deacon, which is like an elder) so they don't drink as much. Needless to say, I'm 24, and have NEVER taken a sip in front of them (to their knowledge). It's not that they would care or say anything, I would just feel incredibly awkward! It really hurts when they take me out for my birthday, and I really want to order a nice glass of wine! I'm sure I could, but again, it would feel weird!

There isn't anything that I don't do around my parents. I'm a grown woman. My Mom is my best friend anyway. I was always honest with my Mother and she knew everything I did anyway from about the time I turned 18 on....

I forgot, I have never showed pda with a bf in front of my parents. Most of them never met them lol. My dad curses, so I can curse around him, my mom and grandma: never. My inlaws curse so it's all good. Man, I feel so dirty lol. :P

My parents don't care that I smoke (dad smokes, mom doesn't), and I don't really care about their opinion on it since I've been over 18 for 10 years. My Grandma on the other hand, never drank or smoked in front of her. My dad drinks the good German beers, and we would go to the pub every once and a while to shoot the breeze. My inlaws rock! My hubby and I go out with them every now and then, and we always drink a beer or two with them at their home when we visit every other week. They smoke too, so smoking in front of them has never been an issue.8)

I don't normally curse much except when i'm around my mum, her fault though. Every other word out of her mouth is a cusre word at times. The only word i wont say in front of any of my family is the c-word! Thats one i'm sure my nan and uncles would still smack my butt for.

Oh and I wouldn't do more than a little PDA in front of my parents - stuff like pecks (as opposed to fully kissing) and hugs and hand holding and sitting on their laps is fine by me.

I smoke all the time in front of my parents. I'll use every curse word minus the f-bomb or c-word which I'm also quite partial to using normally. I'll drink but nowdays I wouldn't let them see me totally smashed...when I was younger I did.

The only thing I won't do is drop the f-bomb in front of the parental units and I'm not talking about my love life. Everything else is fair game.
