US, Iraq Long-Term Security Deal Abandoned
The Washington Post reports that the US and Iraq have abandoned attempts to forge a long-term security agreement. The focus is now on a "bridge document" that would provide for basic military operations after the UN mandate expires at the end of this year, and it would fall to the next administration to deal with any extended security agreement.

An Iranian airstrike will solve all his problems. It will cause a rift between Iraq and Iran because Iraq will have to choose our side. It will also heighten Sunni and Shiite tensions in Iraq which will destabilize the entire country causing Malike to offer us anything for us to stay. Which will be our soldiers for their oil. So, I guess we're going to bomb Iran soon.

I'm not sure what to make of this, but I think it's too soon for optimism.

Does anyone else see this as a good thing? The next Prsident can then work with Iraq's government to the mutual benefit of both countries.
