What's the Best Compliment You Ever Received From a Stranger?

I have a friend — let's call her Mary — who was once walking down the street in New York, thinking that she looked pretty cute. Soon, her reverie was interrupted by a boisterous stranger, who shouted as she walked by, "Now that's the razzmatazz I'm talking about!"

Though it was an unusual compliment, it still made her day, and she walked a bit sassier because of it. In rare cases, a compliment from a stranger can be creepy, but when done right, a passing positive comment can make your day and make you smile. For that reason, I love to pay compliments to people when I feel so moved, though there is definitely a right and a wrong way to do it. So what's the best compliment you've ever received from a stranger?

When I picked up my son at his school, one of his friend whispered to his teacher. The teacher laughed and told me "He said you're the most beautiful mother in the school" I smiled through the whole day..

An old lady once told me I have the most gorgeous skin. A homeless guy told my hubby when we were walking to a restaurant that I was beautiful and my hubby better treat me well. Finally, a random guy came up to me while I was walking in the mall and knelt down in front of me and asked me to marry him.

I think that the best compliment that I ever received was when I was working retail and an older woman walked up to me from across the store - she was probably about 60 - and she said, "You have such a kind face." It made me feel really good to know that was something that a stranger would notice about me. The second best was a couple of years later (still working retail) when a friend came up to me and told me that he was just in the back room room and overheard our boss and the regional director (or mgr. I don't remember what we called her) discussing whether they thought I would want them to submit my photo for the company's new ad campaign. They came up and asked me later, and I went along with it but got "disqualified" or passed over because of my height... I'm only 5'2", and evidently that wasn't even close to tall enough for them :0). It was such a great compliment that they even considered me.

Once I was sitting with some friends in a cafe, and one of their friends (who I'd never met before), said to me, "You have such a beautiful voice!". It was such a random compliment, but it really made me happy.

People tell me ALL of the time that I smell good, and I love it lol! I don't wear any perfume, use any scented products, even my deoderant is non scented. It is a weird compliment, but I've always been hot when others are cold and when you live in insanely hot and humid climates and feel like you are going to combust any second, it's nice to know you don't smell like sweat and other. People are always coming up to me and saying things like, Okay don't take this weird, but you smell SO good.. haha

A sweet and simple 'ciao bella' while walking on the streets after dinner during my vacation in Italy. I giggled.

Last summer I was in France stuck in the traffic jam with my friend in the car and the windows open cause it was so hot. That little uber-wealthy-looking old man walked to me and said "miss, I wanted to tell you that you and your car compliment each other very well." Then he stepped back then moved closer "actually, you and your car embody the ultimate image of femininity in my eyes." My friend could not stop laughing.

Oh, I totally forgot to add these:I've gotten asked multiple times on the rare occasions I wear contacts if they're tinted contacts, because my eyes are so blue :)Also, once at a gas station, a guy who was working on some construction there told me he liked my glasses. I can't remember exactly how he worded it, but he basically said that usually glasses don't look that good, but mine were very flattering on me and made my eyes stand out. So that was awesome! He also kept staring at me the whole time and smiling. (Not in a creepy way, just in a cute flirty way!) Never having had much male attention before in my life, this was a huuge ego boost for me!

Recently I was at a drugstore, and the girl who worked in the beauty department was helping me pick out & try on some lipstick and she told me I had both perfect lips and flawless skin! She was surprised when I told her my skin is actually not that great... she then asked me what foundation I used. This was great, because I've been somewhat self conscious about my skin, and while I thought I covered my red acne marks pretty well, it was nice to get confirmation (and to know that it looked natural, not cakey.)I often try to compliment strangers, usually on their jewelry, nail colour and hair, because I know how nice just a little thing like that can feel when coming from a stranger!
