Coakley lost because the people in the state are sick of what's happening in Washington. The voters discovered they had an energized, interested candidate with better ideas than they have heard out of Washington lately. Any effort to suggest otherwise is disingenuous.

"Did Massachusetts Old Boys' network do in Martha Coakley's senate bid?"Nope. And of all the asinine excuses for her loss in the last two days, that has to be the dumbest. She was up by 30 points a few weeks ago! She lost because she ran a TERRIBLE campaign. She misspelled "Massachusetts." She said Curt Schilling was a Yankee fan. She expressed derision at the suggestion that she might ("ew!") shake hands with prospective voters. She made a fraction of the campaign appearances that Brown did, and she didn't bother to campagin! Meanwhile, Brown ran a fantastic, well-organized, and flawless campaign helped by widespread frustration with the democrats in power (in Washington and in Massaschusetts). One does not need to go looking for sexism to understand this loss. And frankly, if you can't pass legislation with a democratic president, majority in the House and supermajority in the Senate for a year, then write better legislation.

martha coakley couldn't be bothered to campaign for a senate seat in a state that has historically been democratic. if there is anything that people should have known in this polictical climate it was that nothing should be taken for granted. its unbelievably shocking that we'd need a 60 senate seat supermajority to get anything accomplished in this country but unfortunately with a bunch of jackass obstructionist for the sake of obstructing republicans in congress we do. i was already worried considering how difficult its been to pass legislation WITH a supermajority, now passing cogent legislation might be impossible.
