I'm on Ocella also, I started taking it about 5 months ago (after 4 years on various pills). Right after I started taking it, aside from being more hormonal than in the past, I began to get bad headaches right before my period, this last go around I had my first migraine ever, it was so bad I couldn't go anything but lay in bed and cry from the pain, followed by days of a never ending headaches. My doctor wound up diagnosing me with menstrual cluster migraines. I'm going to try and get on something different, something that won't give me headaches, but the pill is still the best thing for me.

I'm on the Patch and I hate it. Horrible headaches, mood-swings, and decreased sex drive. The only good things about it is its convenience. I'm looking to switch to a different type of BC this month, so if anyone has any recommendations, please let me know!

Oh! I didn't realize that Yaz and Yasmin weren't the same thing! People have been talking about them interchangeably, especially all the horrible things when talking about their doctors switching them from Yasmin to Ocella b/c it's cheaper. I started on Ocella, and I don't think I will switch unless it become unsafe for me to continue. Hormonally I was a mess before, but the BC seems to even me out.

geebers, you are all kinds of knowledgeable! :-) I'll ask my gyn about Yaz & Mirena, & see which one she recommends. Physically, Yasmin has been good to me (no change in weight/size + lighter, shorter periods) but mentally/emotionally, yeah I'm a crazy b!tch.

margokhal/jacrabbit found this on EmedTv:When Will Generic Yaz Be Available? The first patent for Yaz currently expires in June 2014. However, Barr Pharmaceuticals (a major generic drug manufacturer) and the makers of Yaz have entered into a settlement in which Barr will be allowed to market a generic version of Yaz no later than July 2011.

My vote was for the NuvaRing. I've only recently started using any birth control and this is the first kind I've been on (new to sex). I've been on the Ring for almost 3 months now and I really like it. Not many weird side effects yet and I hope it stays that way! My boyfriend and I used to use condoms too but neither of us like them much, so we haven't been using them and he just pulls out. Occasionally he'll stay inside to finish but not often. We're both a little paranoid but I feel pretty confident in the fact that I'm using it right and that the 99% effectiveness has got me covered. :P

margokhal, Ocella is the generic form of Yasmin (which has 30 mcg of estrogen compared to Yaz' 20 mcg). I thought they were the same thing until researching other forms of BC in the past week. I'm not sure if Yaz has a generic form or not.

I don't understand why IUC devices are not more popular! Its amazing! You do absolutely nothing and you are covered for FIVE YEARS!! I don't get a period, which means no cramps, no bleeding, nothing! My husband and I feel like a couple of reckless kids. If anything it has enhanced our activities :)

Condoms. BC pills wreaked havoc on me physically and psychologically.

I started Ocella (generic Yaz, I wouldn't suggest switching from Yaz to Ocella b/c I've heard horrible things happening) to control my crazy-ass periods, and I'm much happier now. It hasn't really affected my mood; I haven't suffered any side effects. I'm not sexually active, but I guess this (+ condoms, definitely, maybe some other stuff) is the method I'd use if I was. NuvaRing scares the crap out of me!

I had a friend who was on the pill and she and her guy didn't use a condom one night (she said they usually used condoms too) and she got pregnant. The only reason she found out was because she sick when she went to the doctor's and they had to do a blood test. Scary stuff.

I've been on the pill since I was 14 or 15 to try to improve my HORRIBLE periods. I've been on so many different kinds over the years, changing them for various reasons. With some. it's almost like my body gets used to them & after a few months the bad periods return, with others I've had emotional side effects...like they make me a crazy person!! The most recent problem I had was w/ Yaz...I really liked it at first & my period was really short..then my period went away all together!! I'm married, but we're not ready for kids now or maybe ever & that was quite the scare! I swear my husband had me peeing on a pregnancy test for weeks!! My gyno says this happens to some people...the period shortens & then eventually stops. Well, I personally like knowing that I'm not pregnant every month...so that wasn't the pill for me. I'm on Yasmin now...and so far, so good. I really hate how all these hormones mess w/ my body & mental state...guys have no idea what we go through!!!

to those who only use one method of birth control are you afraid of an unplanned pregnancy or worse? And the person who mentioned about Depo causing osteoperosis are you serious? Damn. I've been on that for going on 8 years now. Going to my Gyno tomorrow is that's the case. you learn something new everyday.

Does anyone else think it sucks that the guys don't have to go through all of this?? I have been on the pill for 3yrs (same boyfriend) and I still get mad that I have to take the pill so I don't get pregnant...after all who's the one that can get me pregnant?? Ok, see this is my side affect from the pill! LoL! Total bitchyness! I also (my boyfriend too) noticed a decrease in my sex drive when I first started taking the pill. Now I just have a decrease when he makes me mad! LoL! ;)

Condoms. I was on Depo for about five or six years and loved it, but my doctor said it can cause osteoporosis and made me get X-rayed. The X rays confirmed that my bone density mass was too low for my age, so I stopped using it after that. I'm too forgetful to take the pill.
